I need help making a decision on if i should be more for "show" or more for "go." I drive a 93 hatchback. If i go for show, then i'm going to sell it and get a 95-96 240sx and fix it up nice (bodykit, rims, paint, etc). If i did that then i would get a few street legal bolt-ons to accompany it, but nothing more. The nice looking cars around here seem to get pulled over often and are searched for illegal modifications...and if i have any, that means tickets and fines. So if i fix up my car for show and get pulled over by cops for no reason, i want to be safe from that crap. But i also have a need for speed. I live in southern california where there are tons of modified imports and tons of muscle cars. The muscle car drivers think that they are the shyt and blow by other cars just because they can. Every time I see this I feel like downshifting, blowing by them, and seeing the looks on their faces. But in order to do so I would want to go turbo. So far all of the turbo kits and turbo engine swaps are not street legal in california. So if I go turbo then i'm going to do it to my 93 hatchback and keep it very stock looking. Even to hide the intercooler i'll just put a grill in front of it. That way the only reason i'll get pulled over is if i get caught racing (and I won't get caught).

My last 240sx was pulled over several times. I went through the whole "pop open your hood" thing a few times. That car was modified and had it's share of goodies. Here's a pic: http://ballr858.homestead.com/...x.jpg

My current car hasn't even been pulled over yet because it is pretty much stock, other than eibach sportlines and intake.

I would love to be both "show" and "go" but it's just too risky out here. So I want to choose one or the other. Should I go all show with the 95-96 or make my 93 faster? Any opinions or comments?

How about Show with the S13? Sileighty conversions with nice jdm kits and paint are a beautiful sight. I personally am going with some go no show at the moment. Id suggest do whatever you would like and plan for the future. Its gonna be easier (IMO) to keep your GO S13 and then eventually never sell it but keep it for offroad use/weekend warrior. Show cars have a very low resell value since all the money you spent on bodywork usually means squat monitary-wise to the next man. Dont get me wrong you get a little more than blue book but its not a guarentee.

Why would you want all show and no go? You'll have plenty of time to admire your bodykit when you get beat by a stock Civic SI.

Im personally going for a top secret project for GO... forget show.. i love the fact with STOCK i can desimate most ricers on the street with the 1000's put into kits and paint that even their mother wouldnt approve of. Go for GO(no pun intended) and then... add some show later on after you know the car hauls.

Just do a little of both. You cant go all show because youll have nothing to back it up...If you go all go, no one would really race you. I have a BONE-STOCK looking 89 240 with a blacktop SR20DET. The swap was the first thing I got so I dont have any money to fix it up. Its not lowered, the paint is faded, the wheels are stock....I have so much trouble finding someone to race...I say go a little of both, so when you pass them up, you'll be passing in style...

Good call guys, it's good to see this board isn't full of ricers :D

I agree with anyone else though, stay with the stock look.... or atleast add rims and a spoiler (or something minor).

Mustang and camaro owners won't know what to say when i beat them with my "stock" 240. Man that's gonna be great!

Yeah totally. What happens when you hit a rock and smash you $800 bumper? Or when little kids key your car and ruin your $3,000 paint job?

I'd rather have a nice interior/rims and a FUGGIN FAST engine.

thanks for the advice/opinions guys. i think that i would rather have a fast sleeper car than a car fixed up exterior wise.
