All of a sudden, my Versa is slow to start! :|

Before I call my mechanic next week, has anyone had any experience with this? I have a 2008 S, with about 33K miles. All of a sudden (I noticed it last week) my car seems slow to turn over. It just doesn't start right away like it used to. I've kept up with the oil changes, recommended service, etc. It has been cold here, but no colder than it was last winter and this is the first I've experienced this.

Any input? Thanks so much.

Edited to add: I should have mentioned it takes about 4-5 seconds to start.

Is it not too early for a new battery? That was my first thought when this started, but it seems too soon to me?

A year's worth of starting will take its toll on a battery. If it is slow to crank, I'd also agree that it may be the battery. If it will crank and takes a while to start, it's probably something else. Extreme cold and hot weather will wear a battrey out faster than mild climates. I would have to replace a battrey every couple years when I lived in Colorado years ago. The cold just played havoc on the battery life.

Maybe the fuel pressure regulator?

Had mine changed under warranty this summer. I had to turn the key over quite a bit before it would start. Dealership replaced it under warranty, and its fine now.

Yeah just like ILMV said, it sounds exactly like the pressure regulator.

Definitely let the dealer look into the FPR issue first.

Guaranteed it's probably the FPR.

My car will be two years in April, about 30,000 KMS ... original battery.

I'd like to hope it isn't your battery and that it lasts longer than where your car is at now.

Thanks everyone! I will have that looked at. It definitely cranks right away, it's just sometimes a 3-5 second delay before it turns over.

Thanks again!

I've never had to replace the fuel pressure regulator. It acted up for a while then it stopped doing it. So far it's running fine.

Could be battery terminal corrosion.

I put 120K on the stock nissan battery in 2 years. 2nd one only lasted 60k. ON my third now. One way you will know the battery is going is that ur car will crank and crank and crank and not start. The low battery causes issues with the chip being read in the key.

Hmm I was just coming out to post a question on this but it sounds like this discussion answers it. This weekend it got really cold here and I went out to start the Versa and instead of a crank like it was trying to start with a low battery, the starter sust made a whirring sound. I tryed a jump it but same sound so I had it towed in to the dealer. Of couse, the car starts right up but the dealer replaced the fuel pressure regulator. The battery has 21k miles on it so I don't think the battery is the problem but what about the starter? The dealer says he has not replaced a starter in a Nissan in years. Does anyone know a faulty FPR might cause the engine to flood and that might disengage the starter?

slow to start...weak battery, plus winter weather, its gonna seem weaker, versa's come with weak batterys anyhow, something like 410 cca

if he cranks like normal and won't start in the first 2-3 revolutions, its the fuel pressure regulator

I'm a nissan tech and versa owner, haven't seen so much of the fpr issue recently, and i've never had it with my own (08 sl cvt), but the battery is very weak, since day one, never has the balls it should in the cold especially
