I was replacing the struts on my 1996 maxima. Front left wouldn't go in properly and in a final moment of frustration pushed down on the transverse link and placed the strut. Something popped in my driveshaft and as a result transmission fluid leaked everywhere. Can anyone suggest what I broke and how I would go about fixing it? I've been reading online and can't find anything like a driveshaft seal. I'd appreciate any help.

Also, Anyone know what I did wrong in the first place? I don't understand why the strut didn't go in easily.

Thanks.

Probably pulled the axle out of the transmission. Just shove it back in (as lond as the splines are aligned).

Sounds like you need a seal for the CV Axle. I would put in a new seal before putting your axle back into the transmission to be safe.

Also I think there is a clip pin on the end of the CV joint. You want to be sure its on before inserting into the transmission

Thanks for all your suggestions. The car is sitting on jack stands and I'm going to try to replace the CV seal early next week after this crazy exam I have. I'll post with results so that god forbid anyone else with the same problem will know what to do.
