Does anyone know how to change out the bulbs on the all-mode 4wd selector for a 2003 nissan pathfinder?
(not sure if thats wut its called but the switch under the radio for choosing between 2 wheel and 4 wheel) and also what kind of bulbs they are and how many.

You need to pull the upper vent and then unscrew the lower dash trim (around the radio). Then disconnect any wires and you will see the switch on the backside. I don't recall what bulbs they are exactly but Nissan wanted $5 each - better you go to radio shack and get some equivalents (a thread about that here somewhere - search for it). The bulbs just site inside a plastic housing which you lightly unscrew.

Hmm. They told me I would need a whole new unit because they can't just replace the light. I didn't like their answer very much.

That's not true. I'm looking @ my spare switch now and it has 3 bulbs. You unscrew them 1/4 turn and pull out the bulbs w/bases. As I said, the dealer screws you for $5 a bulb

What size are these bulbs? I have a 2WD so I have no selector, obviously. I'd just like to know what size they are for future reference. You can take a picture of the bulb + bulb in its twist base and it should be pretty easy to tell from those.

I'm a very lazy SOB but they appear to be the same as the HVAC bulbs. I'm sure the size is listed somewhere on this site.

Take yours apart, and take a picture of the bulb. I should be able to tell you which type of bulb it is. I would also advise replacing the bulbs with LEDs, they'll last forever basically and are much brighter, consume less power, and put out less heat.
