Has NICOclub ever helped you out? For example, saved you some money, helped you find a vehicle, resolved a technical or maintenance issue, or just entertained you?

Here's why I ask: We need YOUR help!!! :poke:

Nope, not pleading for spare change, leftover socks, or your unused airline miles - What we DO need help with is contained in this link right here:

search.php?search_id=unanswered

There was a time, when (believe it or not) I *only* used that link to browse the forums. A couple hours a day, I'd make sure every new person got welcomed, every question got answered, and everyone got individual attention. With well over SIX MILLION posts, there's simply no way I (or the volunteer staff) can keep up. :frown:

What's the #1 reason people leave a forum environment? No reply to their post.

SO, I'm asking everyone to give us a hand until we get caught up, maybe give back an hour of your time to NICOclub, if we've ever helped you out. :dblthumb:

Click the Unanswered Posts link, scroll through, and see what catches your eye. If you can answer a question, great. If you can search/post a link to another helpful article (preferably on NICOclub), great. If you can reach out to someone here who you know is an expert and have them answer the question, great. Or, just welcome them aboard and tell them we're working on it.

I hate to ask - our staff here is awesome, but we're neck-deep in creating new content, drafting technical articles, reviewing products, handling the business end of things, and making sure you guys have a kickass playground to hang out in... and we're drowning in unanswered posts (look at my post timestamp, haha).

I'll be right there with you guys, banging out as many as I can - Thanks in advance, and know that we appreciate your loyalty and your friendship. :)

Might as well, stuck at work with no desire to actually be productive. Yes NICO has helped me tons, and I am happy to return the favor. Except there is little information I can provide in all the threads that are currently unanswered, I'll just go back to being a resident guru in the Z32 section. :couch

WIN!

Z32 has gotten REAL busy of late, and we should be drawing a lot more traffic soon. We're gonna redo the Z32 homepage, and the more expertise we have, the more people like to be here. I think a lot of the 32 owners are weary of the BS on other Z forums, which only serves to help us be better at what we do!

I've spent a total of 2 hours on the other Z forums years ago. The only one I still visit from time to time is TT, otherwise its a bunch of crap that doesn't interest me. I love the Z32 section here, I think between maybe 10 of us that have been around for a while we could without a FSM disassemble and reassemble a Z32 including the wiring. So I think we are pretty well setup to help the noobs out. I remember being a young brighteyed and bushy tailed noob, oh where have the years gone? Nico has always been good to so I'm staying until i get carried out either in a straight-jack or a box.

A quick note on this topic..

We have well over 1000 unanswered posts right now.. many of those are in classifieds and don't need a reply.. but the majority are in the general and car or engine specific forums.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AN EXPERT OR HAVE THE PERFECT ANSWER TO POST A REPLY!

I realize many of the unanswered posts are very technical questions.. I certainly can't answer most of them.. but I can pick and choose a few to help out with. We all have difference experience and expertise and if everyone picked one or two posts we could knock this out in a hurry.

Some tips:

-If the unanswered thread is from a new member, please just post a quick "welcome to NICO, great to have you on the forum!" If it's a tough question you can say that you don't know the answer, but hopefully someone else can pop in and help.

-Don't be afraid to do your own NICO search or Google search on the question being asked. You would like to think that person has already done this, but perhaps they didn't? Maybe the don't trust or understand what they read. Maybe you have a different experience level or perspective on a topic and the search result means something more to you than it did to them. Maybe they've already read the answer, but just don't feel comfortable and just need a second opinion to help their confidence.

-It's perfectly reasonable to reply to a technical question with a follow-up question. Maybe ask more about the situation or environment. Ask if they have considered "X, Y, or Z" as a potential factor..

We're all in this together.. The quality of the forum comes from group participation.. the more you put in, the more everyone gets out.

Please do take a minute or two from time to time and click the unanswered posts.. see if there are one or two that you can help with a reply or a simple welcome note.

Thanks everyone!

I'll try to help some. However, I've become cranky with age and people who come looking to be spoon-fed easily attainable information without even attempting to put forth any effort normally incur my condescending sarcasm or worse. I've spent a lot of years learning and doing and studying and tinkering to attain the knowledge I have earned and I don't have the time to baby sit some punk kid who wants a free ride.

I was new once. There was a time when I came to Nico to find out more about my 240sx convertible. This is one of the best forums I've ever been a part of. It's a great resource for information; but more than that, it's a great source for people. I've developed real relationships with people away from the Internet because of Nico. I'm an experienced rally co-driver in large part because of Nico. Nico was social media before Facebook went global.

Although I don't spend as much time on the Internet as I used to, I'll try to make some time to help with this. Who knows what could develop from a simple, "Use teh SEARCH, n00b!"

I'll be nicer about it, but just because it's Nico and I still like it here.

I reserve that kind of wrath for people on Facebook. :) If someone goes to the effort of creating an account here, I've learned to give them the benefit of the doubt and think, "Hey, at least they did *that* much," rather than asking how to wire an SR20 in a FB post. :)

Forums are the ORIGINAL social media. I've spoken before large groups of forum owners, some who wished to argue that point - they failed.

Let's keep doing what we do, and do it well. We're the best at this. If we weren't, someone would be bigger. They ain't. :dblthumb:

Love having you here brotha!

I've been on NICO for years and have always felt welcome. I think a big reason is because the website feels so inviting, people make offhand comments which are at times invaluable information.

Without NICO I would have had a ton more headaches and sleepless nights during my KA-T build a couple years ago. Prior to that, under my older username that goes back to 2004 I asked all my newb questions, and I feel with NICO's help my interest in a certain model car developed into an enthusiasm for an entire brand.

I still lurk from time to time, currently no longer own any Nissans (by circumstance, not choice) but seeing a thread like this has made me want to try and help out when I can. I need something to do during 4+ hour long cycle times at work anyhow...

Quick bump.... We've made great progress on this (thanks to ALL of you who took a minute to help out!)

We're not outta the woods yet. In fact, with our recent transition to a fully-responsive design, our traffic has jumped 9% SINCE I started this thread! (all most all of it on mobile devices)

As such, there's still plenty to be done. The great news is that we have a search bar at the top of each subforum, so it's easy to find a relevant thread where the issue has probably already been discussed!

Thanks again for making our n00bs feel welcome, and keep the great ideas coming - We're implementing improvements (some small, some not-so-small) almost EVERY day! :)

Is it odd that this is one of my favorite threads? I've visited Nico ever since I could legally drive. Mostly the knowledge base around here means that I don't have anything new to add. However, after owning and wrenching on several Nissans and Infinitis I bet I have something to say on some of the newer threads to help people who might have joined just to post an urgent issue that I might have come across.
I feel obligated because of how welcoming Nico generally is to newer members (and the free FSMs of course!!). I always try to chip in whenever I get some time.

I hear you Ed. I joined 8 years go to ask how to turbo a KA. Seems like such and easy question in retrospect. That's how most of us learned, and when we figure something new out, we share. I'd never have had some of my Nissan's running without the help of people here, and I know there are people who wouldn't be running without me. It's nice to pay it forward. Communities are what you make of them.
