Hey guys,

So I'm going the NA route for a few reasons, such as emissions, I'm not racing it, it will be my daily driver, I don't want to spend thousands on an ESS ARR, and I don't know enough about cars to attempt to turbo the motor.

As well, it has just under 120000 kms on it. It's still a baby, and for an 89, that's not too bad. I plan on keeping the engine for a while, since it's in such good shape.

But here we go...

CAI (kind of like where the filter would go... like amalao's ride (December 06 Nico ROTM)Exhaust Manifold?2.25 BRM Exhaust with the cat (and the resonator if that makes it quieter, i r nubbin)Nicer plugsInjectors?

Still not sure what I will actually do, and I was hoping to get some opinions from guys who know what they're talking about instead of my stupid friends who think bolt-on turbo is as easy as it sounds.

The goal really isn't more horsepower or torque or anything, just to give it a nice refined noise with better response. I'm used to my Ford that has 110 HP, so 140 is actually a nice step up for me.

I'm sticking to the KA and some of my plans are to get a AEM Cam gear, BRM exhaust, I already have an intake, and the ignition system (i'm not done with the parts list on this so its pretty vague).

-Also, I replaced/ am replacing my gaskets, I just recently replace the exhaust mani gasket (it was really, really bad) and just that improved my torque a little. And my intake (its custom) gave my car a little better throttle response.

Hope some of this helps.

Does a high flow cat have the same effect on your emissions that the stock one would have?

only reason i metion high flow cat is because I see u live in Canada

technically speaking, a good high flow cat probably works better then your 15 year old one... I never really got into cat effeciency because I live in Florida where we don't have emissions... so its testpipe for me

you dont need injectors unless the ones you have are bad, and in that case replace them with the oem spec ones. no reason to add more fuel if you arent adding more air and tuning to make it work.

dont waste your money on plugs, there is absolutely NO reason to run anything else than the factory-specified NGK's on a car with that kind of limited modification.

intake, find a cheap tube and cone filter combo. there will be no noticeable gain from spending a couple hundred on name-brand parts.

get a cheap header, high-flow cat and exhaust. 2.5" will be fine for your car.

crank pulley... eeeeehhhhh. not really worth it on an engine like this imho. you might free up an extra couple hp but in the long run there are more beneficial things to spend your money on.

if you wanted to do something along those lines, get some altima electric fans and eliminate the belt-driven one you currently have.

there is no way to get any real hp out of the ka in NA form unless you want to spend money and get radical in your plans. at best you will be returning your car to almost what it was making from the factory.

Thanks for the advice d!ck.

By new plugs I really meant replacing the ancient 17 year old ones, and wasn't too sure about the fuel injectors.

I was going to ebay an intake or buy a cheap one from a parts store, so it's good to know that it doesn't really make a difference if I spend way more than I should.

I'll probably do one of those stainless steel exhaust deals Greg has going for Nico members, with the high flow cat.

Horsepower isn't really the issue, having a running car that sounds nice and responds well is what I'm really after. Besides, who needs 400WHP in stop/go traffic.
