I had a 280z out of college many years back but now I'm ready for my mid-life car. The 2003 350z's are finally dropping in price enough for me to justify the cost along with my other fatherly obligations. The alignment problems have me hesitating though. What is the current situation with them? Are the fixes temporary? Is there are permanent fix? Is there a good work around that minimizes the wear on tires?

Welcome to Nico, I believe the alignment change pretty well took care of the problem

my personal view is if your that convcerend about tire wear you might be happier with an economy car, sports cars in general are gona he harder on tires, higher maintenance and lower fuel economy with higher insurance costs

I agree, except for the higher insurance cost. My '07 Z insurance is exactly the same as my '03 Infiniti I 35 was. Just a heads up, insurance on a Z is cheap, especially compared to a Mustang, which is about $300-$400 more per year over the Z.

Maybe where YOU live the Z is cheaper than a mustang...not here in California.

Just to give you a comparison....

I have had State Farm Insurance for about 5 years now. I know most will say that they are too expensive but they give me 2 cars and renters insurance for about $190ish a month given we have had several discounts over the years making the premium this low.

I know I know, my S14 240SX SE is not a sports car but my purpose behind all this rambling...

My 2006 Pathfinder SE insurance is $12 less a month than my 1995 240SX SE insurance. That is just an insight to the difference between sports car insurance and other family/economy type car insurance.

best advice to you is.....buy on 05 or newer...the yuo would not have to worry about the tire feathering issue...I would advise against buying 1st run cars used-meaning new models when they came out..now they are used..they will always have the most problem-GO GET YOUR SPORTS CAR! dont forget like a well built athlete-you will have maintenance costs higher than other cars

i just turned in my '03 the i bought in oct 0f '02 for an '07. I dont know anything about the in between years, but i spent about $1500 in front tires, the second year only to find out that nissan shipped the Z to the US with the some key suspension screws not fully torqued. the result was the feathering at about 25-30k miles. Only two vehicles from nissan are completely built in japan the Z and the Murano, everything else has final assembley here in the US. A few months later i received a recall notice for the bose sub amp and the front wheel feathering. I faxed my invocies to nissan cust serv. 3weeks later got check for the full $1500, and thats at 30k miles i dropped it off 4 week ago as a trade with 80k and never had any other problems. dont believe the hype its a great car. the trans moans on the '03 when you first start it and engage the clutch.
