He always struck me as a guy who had enough political savvy to become a general but was a little out of his element in the pure political, non-military setting in Washington, D.C.

The only booboo he really made was when Reagan was shot. There was a crap-storm about it via the media and Dems.

Correct, as Secretary of State, he foolishly proclaimed himself in charge after Reagan got shot in'81. That one blunder overshadowed his otherwise impressive career.

Wow it's been a while since I've been in the political section. This is a bummer, he seemed like a good guy. He interviewed my dad a few years ago and he said Haig was a classy dude.
