I think it's the number of views in the past three months. The number next to it with the arrow compares it to the past three months and shows the difference.

I think the algorithm is much more complex than that. Because I assure you that if it was just # of hits, we'd be lightyears ahead of Fresh Alloy. And as it currently shows, FA is ranked way ahead of us.

Personally I think Alexis ratings are completely bogus. But for better statistical data, go to http://www.big-boards.com.

Also, I just noticed that it only lists 5 sites that "link to us". Well, we all know that's wrong. Heck, NICO OWNS more than 5 sites that are linked to us. Not to mention everyone on here who runs a banner link on their homepages.

Like Torry Said, the algorythm is more complicated.

It heavily weighs unique users and fresh page views.

S14boy it goes by xxth webiste on the planet. So for example yahoo homepage would be in the top 3 and a less ranked site would have a higher number.

Nico does well in bigboards, due to the high volume of posts, which reflects its members activism (am not ragging guys, thats a good thing)

FA does better on Alexa, because more unique users are on it and they tend to read seperate threads not re-read the same thread.

As for the "Link -back" I am unclear what parameters this is governed by does the linking site ahve to have so much traffic?, members? Unique hits.?

Its an interesting lesson about statistics.Change the parameters and you change the result.

Alexa ratings are based upon people going to a site who already have the Alexa toolbar installed on their PC.

The only thing it tells me is that more FA people have an Alexa toolbar installed on their PC (something I've never seen any value in).

As they say in the Sprite commercial: Image is nothing, taste is everything. Obey your thirst.

Unless you're talking about internet stocks, because then Alexa rankings = $$$$$. That Baidu IPO paid for the two S14's I'm selling in BST right now

Too bad nothing ever came out of Answers.com, I thought I had a winner there, but the Alexa ranking just didn't rise when the school year started, so no dice for those clowns.

I thought the R1-forum had a slow refresh rate...I guess it's just average. I thought it was slower than this site actually.

Check out the drop in rankings by over 100,000. That's because the new '06 R1 was going to be released and everyone was trying to get any info on it they could. Now that the info's out...crash.

http://www.alexa.com/data/deta...d.comM ... fsound.com Ranking = 26,944. Nico and FA got smoked!

Honda-tech IS the biggest.

Incidentally, the owner of Honda-tech is a good friend and business associate of mine...

He has been consulting on our changes and will be assisting us along the way, so there's NO REASON to think anyone can compete with us from here on out.

From Jill Whelan, an internationally recognized search engine optimization consultant:

"Alexa gets its rankings data from browsers that have the Alexa toolbar installed. That's a fairly small sampling, as well as a skewed one, as many Web-savvy individuals feel that having the toolbar is akin to having spyware on your system. Because of this, any info you get from Alexa needs to be taken with a grain of salt. "

Honestly, there probably is money to be made if someone were to buy up a whole ton of forums. Each one doesn't represent a huge segment of traffic, but if you owned 100 or so of the thousand largest privately-owned forums out there, you'd have something very tantilizing from an advertising standpoint.

Not that I know how one would go about valuing and purchasing forums. I'd love to see what NICO's financials look like.

The problem is getting other forums to sell. We're always interested in buying out other forums, but nobody ever wants to sell.

People who start forums hang on to them until their very last breath, and they sink every dime they have into keeping them alive before they sell. That's because they are their "pride and joy."

NICO has been offered to be bought out as well. When asked if we want to sell, Greg gave an obscene pricetag. They laughed in our faces. Why did we ask so much? Greg replied "that's what it's worth to me."

Every forum is the same. Nobody wants to be owned by another forum.

Are there even any online forums that have gone public and if so what is the average price for stock in them?
