Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of an alcohol - Water injection boost on a G-35 Coupe/ Sedan? Assume I use 93 Octane. Any horse power boosts even with my mods (Intake, spacer, plenum and exhaust)? Where can i buy one with a boost controller in the car and a tank monitor, if this is a safe modification to make on a car? Compared to installing a supercharger or a twin turbo, assuming I want no more than 340bhp, for now, is it a better cost and technical deal than installing a full Sc or TT? Thanks for your response to this. What effects does this have on my engine over time?

Hey Jacko,

I would suggest reading the tech article on Alcohol Injection.

The general consensus is that there is little to no benefit from alcohol injection on an N/A engine.

Theoretically (and somebody please correct me if I'm wrong) a very high compression ratio engine might benefit from alcohol injection, but the compression ratio might exceed physical existance.

But anyway, take a look at it, then come back with questions. Works best that way "Mentos! The fresh maker!"

Here it is:http://www.nicoclub.com/articl...shtml

Are you wanting 340hp at the crank or whp? Also, since you don't have it stated in your profile....what year and model G do you have?

I've learned from the mustang world that they don't work well unless you re tune your computer.

Methanol injection will not come close to the hp gains of a SC or turbo set up.

They work great in combination with a SC or turbo b/c it lowers your intake temps which allows you to squeeze out some more power.

Thanks! I actually what i saw was for twin turboed cars. Most of the articles I saw said it was safe. I actually had a service manager tell me that it was no good. So, I am off the alcohol thoughts for now, until an SC is installed.

All I need right now is about 300 hp at the wheels. Isn't that about 360hp at the flywheel? Just wondering!

15% drivetrain loss would put you around 345 crank hp.

Well, I'd still go read the article and make your decision from there. I don't trust everything one person says.

As far as HP, we typically measure it at the wheels and at the crank. I doubt you'll lose 60 HP from the flywheel to the wheels, though I could be wrong.

Considering your mods, I'd suggest lighter pulleys (non-underdrive) and a lightweight clutch/flywheel kit.

You can probably put another 15-20 HP to the wheels that way.

I'd assume from averages that you have around 240-250 rwhp. So you could be around 265 with those mods.

Fuel economy should improve if you every learn how to drive "normal"

Thanks a million!.. That would probably be my next deal--light weight flywheel/clutch kit and non-underdrive pulleys.

I've been dealing with alcohol and water injection for quite some time now. Unless you're running boost it's not going to be of any use really. You could use it to run really high compression or a bunch of extra timing, but the gains would be minimal at best.

The best way to be quicker is either boost or nitrous hands down.
