Got a call from my fiancee who's got our '04 6MT Sedan out of state with her....She said the alarm went off, for no reason, and now she can't get the trunk open with either the remote, or the manual release by the steering wheel. The car has had issues with the alarm going off in the past as documented in the Service History that I got from the local dealership, but seemed to be fixed when they replaced the hood switch. Just curious how she can get into the trunk without having to crawl between the back seats.PLEASE HELP!

I've had that happen twice to me but without the alarm going off. I just couldn't get into the trunk with both the remote and the trunk release switch on the dash.

By turning on the ignition and then turning it off both the remote and trunk release switch began to work.

I had a similar thing recently (in my G37 Coupe) because my laptop bag strap had got laid across the lock in the trunk and the lock was then unable to open on its own. Tech was able to open it (embarrassingly) easily by using the release then simultaneously pushing up on the trunk door at same time.

I had previously tried to release the door by crawling inside the trunk through the back seats and accessing the crappy plastic handle - but even that would not open it.

So is it possible something is blocking the lock and the alarm was just coincidence? Apparently its a common problem.

Here's how I fixed it a while back.

My G35 6MT trunk lid behaves very strangely. Sometimes it refuses to open whether with the switch on the dash near steering column, the button by the tail lights or the remote fob. I tried unplugging the fuse the BCM ( body control module) hoping it reset the BCM that controls the lid, but it didn't help. Then the other day as I parked I shut off the engine before the car completely stopped, for some reason I wanted to open the lid by pushing the silver button by the tail lights, the lid didn't open. I thought could it be the way of engine being turn off? I decided to do a little test. I started the engine, backed off a bit then pulled forward, but this time I waited until it came to a dead stop before turned the key. Got off the car pushed the trunk lid button, it opened! aha, gotcha!
