My sister just bought an '01 Altima GXE. Don't have all the details, but the next day the alarm went off when they were unlocking car (with key I think) and now the car won't start. They dont have a FOB. The car is sitting in a parking lot. They are in a different state so I can't look at it myself. Any way I can tell them to disable Alarm and start car? SR

Sounds like the alarm was aftermarket. I'm sure starter kill was not standard, for that matter, an alarm. Problem here is that the alarm is "wired" into the car and get it started, you'll need to find out what kind of alarm it is and get the wiring diagram or at the very least get a hold of their customer support.

Couple days later I found out that when the car did not start, it was because they couldn't even turn the ignition key (I thought it would crank but not start). After much wiggleing of the steering wheel and the key in the ignition, It freed itself and car started. Dont know if the steering lock was hung up or the key is worn, but it's OK now.SR

i had a chevy pick up that did that. i had to replace the key tumbler. it really sucked, mine was stuck in the on position though. i had to unplug the distributer every time i parked to shut it off and hope no one else realized how easy it would have been to steal. no problems after i got the new tumbler and got rid of the old worn key.
