Well there have been a series of events in front of my school where cars have been being broken into and i just don't want that to happen to my baby. So i want a affordable yet reliable alarm. Any help from the pros? I was looking at viper but those are pretty expensive. I don't need the remote start, jsut the basics. All i really want is the engine kill and the instant notification via remote, although i would prefer to go with a trusted brand from directed electronics (viper, python, ect.)

PS, money isn't a big issue, i can afford basically anything. I just don't want to dump a bunch of my cash into something like this you know? I really want to keep it under 400$ installed. Thanks guys

i have an aftermarket alarm in my z and i f***ing HATE it. it had it already when i bought the z. i had to clip the wires to the siren and take it off. there was an annoying light inside too and i literally tore it out. there's still a hole just drilled there where it was but whatever. also, if i don't drive the car for a week or two it drains the battery so i have to disconnect the batt. cable.

but my car isn't a daily driver. the moral of the story is do your homework before you have them install it and rewire everything.

sorry i'm not more help

Sounds like you have an electronic system staying on. You need to check the parasitic draw on your battery.

As for the car alarm suggestion. I hook up mine myself so not much help there. Aftermarket shops run deals time to time so I would call around. A professional installation shouldn't yield any problems. Do your homework though cause there are many different systems. IE- motion sensors, tilt sensors, glass break sensors, starter disable.

Of course, full coverage and receipts is always a good way to go too.

the previous owner told me it was because of the after market alarm. i've mentioned it to my friends and they say it's not uncommon for an after market alarm. if you drive the car every few days it's fine as long as the battery doesn't drain too much because the alt just recharges it. if it drains too much though the battery will get ruined. you can only kill a car battery and recharge it so many times and then it stops holding a charge.

your going to get hosed where ever you go, you may check ( the12volt.com) they have wiring diagrams and tells you where the wire is. I am looking into installing my own alarm. I'm 37 and have installed car alarms and audio for about 21 years but I'm too old to be hangin upside down under my dash and it kills my back. If you check that website or I copied and pasted. Some of this info may be alittle off but if you have a 12 test light you can check most of it to make sure your tapping into the right wire. Also Radioshack or some local car audio stores have some crimp down piggy back type connectors that are great if you don't want to splice the wire and then reconnect it. Hope this helps and DEI makes great alarms but so does Ungo, Carbine, and a few others. Best brnd depends on preferance of where your at in the US.
