seems legit, but you will want to figure out 2 things:

1) Most important - how is the SIM activated, which is what you can ask the seller. Most likely, you will need a sim (prepaid - think boost mobile does one) or month->month w/ txting. If this is the case, you can already track ur car w/ mologogo & boost mobile setup (you can do a google for "gps tracking car" if you don't know what I'm talking about - and save yourself the $400 initial cost.

2) You will want to add a battery backup for this. If someone cuts off the battery power or cuts of the wiring going to the unit, looks like it basically becomes worthless. The cell phone gps track system mentioned in (1) avoids this since you can setup a cell phone w/ charger, even if the car's battery is disconnected, you will have cell battery power.

If you are really concerned, you may want to consider Lo Jack - the "half-assed" one on ebay is almost 50% toward getting Lo Jack.

thanks alot for the help! so I guess it's between Lo jack and this thing. I just wanted to make sure this thing was legit. The SIM card is a prepaid sim card. I don;t think it's included, but like you said, buying a prepaid one shouldnt be a big deal

i would be weary of buying off brand electronics for my car. i have bought some off brand for my previous vert and the electronics in it went haywire and i had to rewire it. also the warranty sucked. so with my new vert, although it doesnt have SIM capabilties, it has the motion, cut off, shock, 1/4 miles two way paging range, trunk release and headlight operation. its a viper system and they have lifetime warranties. i highly recommend getting something with a decent warranty. also i can upgrade it later, it was just getting expensive with all the add-ons i already had. you can get the gps kit also, etc.

i'm with jamesblonde82 on this,.. i have the DEI Viper 5900, it has a mile range to notify me via remote, remote start, motion/shock sensor, starter cutoff, backup battery (which if the primary battery is pulled the backup kicks in and sets the alarm off if it isn't going off alreay), sensors in the trunk and hood and i have mine wired to an actuator in the trunk (for remote trunk release) and the gas door (can remotely release it too,.. just for the hell of it).

It's a sweet system, i looked into the whole GPS tracking thing but didn't want to pay a monthly bill just for that. I figure the alarm will keep my car in its place.

well, I think the GPS thing is free, at least thats what the listing says. The only thing you have to pay for is the SIM if you want text messages from your car. the only thing holding me back on this one is the fact that it is off brand. Like jamesblonde said I dont want the thing going haywire after I spend $330 bucks on it

nice set-up. i should do the back-up battery, but i figured the kill switch would be enough. all this money on an alarm and someone could just come with a tow truck and haul it off. its RWD too, so in most parking lots all you gotta do is just lift the back wheels up and they're gone. it'd be making all kinds of noise at least though.

Then you should look @ my (1) option or even (2) option... of course gps is free - but if you don't pay for a SIM (making it the same thing as setting up the cell phone gps trick), then the gps is useless.

I'm just letting you know so that you are aware you aren't paying $3xx total, you are paying that initial, and around 25-35 a month for a sim - even the cheapest pay as you go plans now aren't truly "pay as you go", monthly subscription required.
