I have a 1997 pathfinder SE and I cant unlock the door with the key or the alarm goes off, its the original key from nissan but i cant figure out why it would go off. I can unlock it fine with the remote just not the key. Can anybody tell me why and how i can fix this?

that's weird. mine is total opposite to the point that i believe my factory "security system" is just a flashing LED as I can open the door and start the car with any key without the alarm going off.

or does the alarm go off if you open the locked door without a key? my anti-theft relay is there in the relay box in the engine bay.. so i dont know.

does your 97 have a factory hood pin? i have one that just dangles there and looks like it should be secured to two screw at the front.. maybe i'll take a picture.

sorry to thread jack.

Did you lock it with the remote? Somewhere along the way, I dealt with wheels where if you locked it with the remote, you had to UNlock it with theremote. Use the key and HONK HONK HONK. In fact, I thnk my '01 PF doesthat, but I don't do that. My '95 PF may have.

does it do it on all door locks or just one, such as driver side?

If it only happens only to one lock, the chance is the turn sensor in the lock is broken. If all goes bad, check the security alarm wiring and if all look normal, you might have a defected security module.

So I checked it all out and i found out that the key doesnt even unlock the passenger side door, the alarm goes off if i try to unlock it by the drivers side door, but if my remote dies i can get in by unlocking the rear tailgate then i can unlock the drivers door from the outside with the key and the alarm doesnt go off. Maybe then the problem is what chaonis said and its a broken turn sensor in the drivers door.

i test drove a I30 i wanted to buy before the pathfinderthe dealer told me the key acts the same as the alarmso basicly if i lock the car either by remote or key it automaticly engages the alarm so i'm guessing either by key or remote it wont set it offunless maybe its not the original key or something

ps the car was a 98 if it helps
