I have a 1997 QX4, I like the ride but yesterday I noticed the interior lights will not automatically shut off. I drove it around a good part of the day and actually forgot about them (sunny day). Well this morning I had to jump it off because of a dead battery. I drive to work, no issues. I do out on a break and hear chirp chirp chirp. I checked all the doors, all are shut, all the windows are up and everything was locked. I unlock with the key and get in. It will not start. it just chirps at me. I unlocked the doors with the key to reset that alarm but that didn't work. If I disconnect the battery will it reset the alarm?

And if it is something faulty, is there a way to bypass the alarm to get it home?

Thanks, David

Disconnecting the battery will at least keep the battery from running down.If you leave it disconnected for a while, it will reset lots of stuff, including possibly the keyless remote programming (it did on a '95). So it's worth a shot.

I think you have to start it with the key to reset the alarm, not just open thedoor.

I did disconnect the battery to keep it from running down, and also to keep the local wildlife from having seizures from the sound. ;-) The starter motor is disconnected by the alarm system so it won't start. But I did try to start it and it never shut the alarm off. I used the key, and the keyless fob, all to no avail. So I think it's a bad switch in one of the doors. Since I don't have a switch I had it towed to a trusted shop.

Ususally, the door switches are open with the doors closed, so unplugging it would have sufficed.

Thanks for the info. I will definetely keep that in mind if this happens again. I can live without the alarm, I live in a relatively quiet/calm area. The only question I have is this, is the switch located inside the door or is it part of the latch assembly. I am not afraid to take the door panel off so knowing what area to look into would be helpful.

OK, The QX4 has a Viper Anti Theft System which I did not know It had. It is malfunctioning causing the issues. I am having it removed from the vehicle.

Chuck thank you for your reply's I will keep the open/illumination switch in mind if I have simular problems again.

The switch is usually located in the door jamb, towards the rear of the door.Look for a little rubber bellows. That's the switch the sense whether the dooris open.
