I'm pretty sure I've read in the manual that the car does that. I know that my car ends up arming the alarm if I forget to do it.

If you read the manual, it explains all the situations in which it will arm itself. Perhaps you experienced one of those situations?

It is very sensitive isn't it? We've set it off three times just by having the keys in our pockets; twice while in a fastfood place, and once at home.

I also gone to the car on occasion when I do not recall locking it to find it locked.

My bigger pet peeve is the absolute ease at which the key fob panic button can be activated. Here in Canada, we do not get the Intelligent Key so perhaps it's different than in the US. That said, it seems like every two weeks, I'm getting out of my car and setting the alarm off as I'm somehow managing to press that button. It is very aggravating (not to mention gives you a bit of a scare...)

I had this happen last night. Apparently the alarm armed even though one of the doors was not closed all the way. A big wind came along and rattled the door -- which set off the alarm. It happened twice before I checked all the doors and saw that one was not slammed. Slammed it, and the problem went away.

I have the opposite problem... I go out to find that I forgot to lock it and can just get right in (I'm happy that I have ignition kill anyway...)

But with my intellikey i've never set off the panic...
