I just got an alarm for my car and I want to install it myself....I'm okay with electricals and I know how to sauder pretty well...so I'm up for the challenge...Plus, this will be the perfect opportunity to know my car since I've had it for only like 2 weeks or so...

Anyways, does anyone have any tips besides "Get it professionally installed"....? I guess I just need a helms manual to see what wires are what..and hopefully I can check one out at the library or something....Well....I'm just wondering if anyone has any sort of tips, tricks, or experience on how to install their own alarm....

BTW, its just a generic alarm...nothing too fancy....they all perform the same anyways..

Thanks

-Albert

im about to get an alarm as well, and i think i will install it myself. i dont think it should be too bad, cause i know electronics as well, and i think the only dificult thing will be to locate teh second shock sensor. if you do this soon, let me know how it goes

test light!!!! voltmeter!!! either one is your life saver. naw, i installed many alarms, and i have never worked for a stereo shop. i got an UNGO MS8300 in my trunk im waiting for motivation to install. pain in the ***, i promise you that. but go into your local stereo shop, preferebly one you've developed rapport with, and ask for them to print you a wiring chart for you car. stereo/alarm shops havea computer database that tells what what wire is where, and what color. makes alarm install a piece of cake, and worth gold.

I'm about to attempt the exact same thing. Guys please let me know how this works out for you. I'm going to try and install the Autopage RS750. The unit will also start the car, but I have a 5speed so installation will be tricky. I hear you can still do it though. You can find this unit on ebay for $175, my local car audio place charges $500 for this alarm installed! Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out. I have a B.S. in Computer Engineering, but have never actually tried installing an alarm before.

Because in a manual, when you start with the remote and "forget" to put the brake in, your car will go on rolling :)

no man, is because it's a manual and if you left your stick in gear and you auto start the car your car is gonna jump forward and someone may get hurt.

i know this dude who have a autostart on his stick car , and that's exactly what happened to him. But he hit the parked car in front of his car instead of some people..*lucky*

I heard the same thing about a guy wrecking his car like that. But who in their right mind leaves the car parked, in gear, without the handbrake set??? I leave mine in neutral with the handbrake set, so I shouldn't have that same problem.

This post has a little dust on it ..but let's discuss this a bit more please. Where is the best place to put in an aftermarket alarm? To rephrase the question...where is a good place to locate the brain of the alarm???

The wiring is not that big of a deal. Some alarms come with instruction of what the names of wires connected to the brain are. But you do have to either know or get a wiring diagram from a car audio store. I suggest putting the brain behind the glove box tucked away in the dash. Thats where mine is. All wires that go through the fire wall are covered in electrical tape around all the factory stuff so the their doesn't know what to cut. The shock senser I would put anywhere under the dash or in the kick panals. If there is a second one I would put it in the back. Third in the engine bay. Fourth on opposite side under dash. Like one on the left and one on the right. If you have more sell them.
