I got a compustar 3000 alarm/remote start for x-mas this year and I was going to tackle the install this weekend. Any of you guys have a quick link for some q45 wiring schematics? What should I do about the factory security system? I was told I would need a key bypass module to be able to remote start the vehicle and have my seat and steering wheel slide into position. any help is much appreciated. THanks, ashley

You will need a copy of FSM [ebay or members] that came new with your vehicle as the 1994 is the earliest year available for download.

I'd HIGHLY recommend taking it to someplace with great insurance (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) and have them do it. I know it sucks paying for the labor... but, it is worth it, trust me.

Do I think they will do a better job than you? No. But, when they screw it up (and they will screw it up) you can take it to the dealership and have it all fixed for free.

When I took my Q in for alarm/remote start install it ended up costing Circuit City about $1000 in repair work at the dealership. Had to replace all sorts of stuff...I'm VERY comfortable with installation of automotive electronics and there is no way I would mess with an alarm on my Q.

The next question would be, has anyone sucessfully installed a remote start/alarm in a first gen Q?

I have done it in both of my 1990 Qs. If you have the FSM, take your time, and are reasonably good at electronics and following instructions, you'll be fine. The 90-96 doesn't use a transponder key, so you don't need a hide-a-key type deal to make it work.

I made fairly detailed connection notes... I'll try to find them and post them later this evening. Color codes may be different on the 93, but I don't think they started the LAN module system until the 1994 model year, so I think they will help.

Good luck!

Heath

Keep in mind that I did a lot of extra stuff to integrate the aftermarket alarm with the OEM alarm. It has a few cool features, like a sensor that can tell if you knock a lock cylinder out. Of course, I'm not responsible if something here is wrong and you fry your car!

Hope this helps!

Come on Heath... you're not taking responsibility if someone you've never met bakes the electronics in a car you've never seen? What kind of crap is that? What is this world coming to... I'm contacting my lawyer!

i've installed the 2WSS-AS in my 95 Q. It was hard as hell and this is my 4th time installing a compustar!

don't trust in best buy or circuit city they are idiots, but they do have surance. also they do not have the technical know-how to do this properly. even certifed compustar installers will have a hard time with the Q. It is a very technologically advanced vehicle. Waaay before its time. The LAN system is amazing!

and i used the 'omega' cd and the fsm for wiring. the omega cd was wrong for some of the colors but with the help of 'trial-and-error' and the fsm i was able to get it.

to get the full functionality of the compustar you will need quite a few inputs.

i can post my notes on saturday. but for now here's a few tips:

-tach - you can get this at the ecu-trunk release *either at the door switch (easiest) or at the trunk. AND USE A RELAY!!!-trunk trigger *body control unit (easiest) or at the trunk light-door locks - very tricky, must get it at the power door lock lan;-door trigger - use the little dome light under the steering wheel-hood trigger - use the factory hood pin switch or get it at body control unit-horn - there is a yellow connector for SRS at the right of the steering wheel, this is the easiest location to get the horn.-parking light - can be had at the connector under the dash *follow the steering column.-power, ignition, starter and accessory can be had at another connector under the dash *follow the steering column-95 q45 doesn't make use of the 2nd ignition, starter or accessory although there is one extra wire at the ignition and i can't figure out what its for.

i also did widow up, window down and motion sensor.

***WARNING*** IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ELECTRONICS DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS ALARM YOURSELF!!!

Didn't the LAN system start with the '94 model year?

good one. i'm not sure on this one. if the lan system isn't on the 93 model then some of those tips would be invalid.

your fsm will tell you.

Here's the link to my tech page for the '93. This is the same information I had posted on q45.org before it got erased. I've got a system similar to the Compustar on my '94 and it wasn't that difficult. Probably doesn't mean much to the novice tho, I've been installing for over 15 years. Wow, now I feel old...
