Hi everyone!I have a nice 93 J30t, with 190K (!) on the odometer. Two questions:First (important)- How do i totally disable the stock alarm? If i disconnect the alarm brain, will it be disabled? Is there any way to do it?I want to be able to totally disable it, IOW: get rid of it.

Second:- ECU says "EGR Malfunction" and voila!, the car won't start when hot (After driving) unless i let it sleep for an hour or so. Now it has become hard to start even in the mornings, after a good night of sleep.

I ordered a new EGR valve, and i know that the tubes need cleaning>My question:- Do i need to replace also the EGR temp sensor? - Can i reuse the gaskets on the EGR valve?- Is there something else i want to check? (as for the non-starting condition) I already replaced the starter (old one died horribly), Fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator, i had a "bad injector leaking" code, and the new fuel pressure regulator got rid of it (interesting, heh?).

I will really appreciate your answers.

i have no idea about the alarm system, but wouldnt it disable the keyless entry too if you are to remove the plug completely??, again, i have no idea, i hope that someone here can help

- Can i reuse the gaskets on the EGR valve?the EGR gets really hot, so most likely the gaskets are toast, i would highly suggest replacing them along, it wont work properly otherwise (it will cause a vacuum leak), unless you have the metal gaskets, then it would be reusable (some VG's came with hard rubber gaskets), in that case, all you have to worry about is to tighten them correctly (corrcect torque)

very interesting..... check all your plugs in the back of the engine, make sure that they are all pluged in........ also ohm the injectors, they should be between 10-14 Ohms...... and most likely, the EGR should fix your problem

oh and to clean the EGR tubes, i think yodawill2000 had a write up about it about a year ago or so

Thanks guys!I guess i have one of the higher-miled J30's in this forum?I'll be changing the t-belt @ 200K.Car runs great, and everyone keeps thinking it's a "99 or something" car, people just don't believe the car is a 93.Has taken me and wife to 3K trips without complaining a bit :The best part: I paid $ 2500 for it with 100K miles. It has more than paid itself, and i guess it will be rolling for 3-4 more years before retiring.

We are thinking of getting a G35 as replacement. to the designers and overall quality of this car, :D

I just bought (Feb) my 94 that now has 185k miles on it for $1,000. It's the one in the picture.

You learn to love HICAS on HWY 1 form Cambria to Carmel :DWhat's the life expectancy of our J's? Of course, with good maintenance, etc (as an example i only use Mobil 1 synthetic on mine, change plugs every year, do xmission service every year, clean engine bay and check cables every month, etc)

it will last a very long time..... one of the few cars in the 90s that were built right....... the J, lexus 300, and the benz E class are still running today because of the high quality materials used in them.... they set the examples of fine engineering IMO

UPDATE:EGR replaced, and tubes cleaned (6 hrs total time, including removing the intake for easy access (me=large guy))The driver's side tube had more carbon than a coal mine, ended up like new. :Everything back together neatly, car starts like nothing now, and i can fell more low-end power.

Thanks guys for your replies.

I don't know if your looking for a new or used G35. Back when they where introduced we looked at one as a replacement vehicle for my wifes VW. Exterior fit and finish was beautiful as was performance. However the quality and finish of the interior was horrible. Very non-Infiniti like. We where shocked. The plastics where cheap and coarse and I felt the leather on the seats where "thin". Knobs, switchgear and buttons looked fine but felt cheap. We skipped it and bought an Acura-the interior was much more nicer. Its my understanding the Infiniti has adressed the problem off cheap G35 interiors in the latter years of the first generation G35. The second generation G35(the new one) is gorgeous inside and out.

BTW Welcome to NICO!!!!

Yes, there was carbon everywhere, in fact, i am thinking on selling it to the local power generation station

I can't imagine how someone can do the job without removing the plenum, maybe if you are short enough (?)

Now, it seems like the starter coil (the one that powers the starter) may be giving up, perhaps due to the abuse it took trying to start the car in past weeks. Going for it this weekend, TG this is an EASY job.

One of my friends who helped me do the EGR thing, was complaining and cursing Nissan for the design in their cars, and blah blah blah...until we finished and i gave him a ride...he just said: "well, it's a nice car", no more complains.
