When I got my Versa I was told it had an anti-theft system. I have the remote keyless entry, and i see a little blinking light inside the car when I lock the doors, but I tried opening the car door a few times while it was "armed" and nothing happened. No alarm sound or anything. Anyone have any info about this?

Also, in the glove compartment was this paper with stickers on it that read "ChopCop" theft deterrent system, and it has an 800 number on it.

I tried to find out more about this ChopCop thing with google, to no avail. Any info on this?

thanks.

ChopCop would be a after market alarm that most dealers have to have now(for insurance) on there cars that are on the lot even if the cars come stock with a alarm or key less entry system. There are different manufactures of the after market alarms the dealers use and most likely if is still in you car there will be a small black box under the steering column with a LED light on it the dealer try to sell you on this system but most decline.I use to work for a company years ago that installed this type alarm system and a two person team could install about 65 of the alarms in a day.

So if you have the black box with the LED under the steering column but do not have the alarm remote for it I would recommend having a professional remove it or your battery of the car will be affected long term. You can also tell if it was previously installed in your car if you have one or two screw holes on the bottom of the panel under steering column. And if they did remove the system they usually just remove the alarm brain and LED black box but they leave a ignition kill relay and wires still hooked up to the car and that can cause problems down the line if the relay fails.

Sorry for the long story.

Does your car have VIN etching? If so, that's one thing that is a theft device. The reason you have a red light blinking is because if you try to start the car with a key that isn't programmed to the car, that light will go off.

I do NOT recommend installing aftermarket alarms into iKey cars or any cars for that matter. Too many issues arise when the BCM is tapped into.

I had a car today that none of the power windows worked on this Murano, someone put an alarm in the car and tapped into the MASTER SWITCH for the windows/locks!

My Versa has stickers on the windows with something to the effect of "Traceable Anti-Theft Device Installed". I think they are just stickers because I could find nothing about them in the manual and after I actually signed the paper work my dealer seemed to have forgotten everything he ever knew about cars, remembering only that I can find answers to my questions elsewhere. My car's alarm will go off if you touch it too hard, no need to bump it and there is a red blinking light on the dash when it is off and locked.

Well I assume you mean aftermarket because if i lock my doors with the remote (or IKey) and then reach through an open window and manually unlock the door and open it my car goes absolutely NUTS with the horn. As far as I know this is standard on the SL Hatch...

Yeah, that exactly what all my factory "alarms" do - they don't have any bump sensors, they just go off if a door is unlocked through an open window.

So how did you test your alarm exactly? If you roll your windows down, get out and lock the door, and then reach through the open window and try to unlock the driver's door, it should start honking.

first let me say that my car does not have an ikey. i dont know if this makes a difference.

okay, so i used my remote to lock the doors. i tried a few things:

i unlocked and opened the door through an open window, and i also opened the car door from inside the car after the car was locked (with the windows up) and "armed" according to the manual.

i also just messed with the door handles to see if that was enough to do anything - but my manual says that the car alarm does not have a motion/bump sensor anyhow which i expected.

doing either of those sets off the alarm on my dads 4runner, and my moms dodge neon. but not my versa.

I'm confused how you would open the door from the inside with the alarm activated...wouldn't you have to unlock the door first, therefore deactivating the alarm?

Also, a bit off topic, but I'm confused about your Versa. Your profile says it's an SL trim, but your signature picture has hubcaps. Aren't the alloy rims stock on all SL models?

i sat inside the car, and unlocked the door w/o using the remote or the button (i just flipped it)

and i specifically asked to NOT have alloy, because im putting a set of wheels on it from wheel emporium inc. (the dealer is a close friend of the family, so i dont know what he did in order to swing that, but i know he made it happen).

I guess I'm going to have to call him about the alarm thing, which i hate to do because he already went super out of his way to hook me up on the sale of this car.

just got off the phone with my gramma's friend (the guy who sold me the versa) - he told me to bring th car in to figure out what the deal with the security system is.

also, i asked him about the alloy rims - he swapped them out with the wheels from an S, since i told him I was just gonna take them off next week anyhow, which is fine by me. id hate to see the alloy rims go to waste, cause id probably just let them sit in my garage.

im worried now about my tire pressure monitoring system - the light keeps coming on even though the tire pressure is fine. this sucks, my car is less than a week old!

Is there a difference in calibration of the TPMS between the steelies and alloys? That would be my guess, since they'd have different weights and such.

About your alarm...if you're sitting in the driver's seat it usually won't go off that way. Most new(er) cars have a sensor in the driver's seat to tell if there is someone sitting in it - for the exact reason that you won't accidentally set the alarm off on yourself for unlocking the door to get out.

But you said that you tested it outside the car and it didn't work. That's strange. Did you roll the windows down, get out, lock it remotely, then reach through the window and unlock the door?

Also, I'm not certain, but there might be a "timeout" feature where it isn't enabled for 30 seconds or something like that. So do the outside-reaching-in technique again after letting it sit locked for a couple minutes. That's all I've got.

by golly, the TPMS light staying on is probably for the reason you said!

i did wait 30 seconds, the manual does say there is a 30 second arming period... i was just wondering if possibly I'm too stupid to figure it out. lol. I always overlook simple things. I suppose I'll find out for sure on Saturday. this will be my 3rd trip out to the dealer in less than a week (which sucks cause its almost an hour away)- when i picked up the car he told me it didnt have the remote keyless entry, and i had to go back 3 days later when i realized i should have had the remote, not just power locks and windows as i thought. lol.

Hmmm...well it sounds like you put it to the test and it didn't work. That's awfully strange. Hopefully it'll get cleared up after a visit to the dealer.
