Just out of curiosity I see that there is a small circle next to the gas gauge. Is that supposed to illuminate when gas needs filled up? Is it supposed to ding or anything? Mine doesnt.

Also when you set the alarm is it supposed to honk or anything? My lights just flash and the doors lock. Its kind of a PITA without an audible trigger.

To make the vehicle honk, hold both the lock and unlock buttons on the keyfob near the car until it honks - then it will honk once to tell you it's locked. These instructions should be on the back of the key fob as well.

The only thing that alerts you to gas up is the gas light, which looks like a gas pump.

Ive never seen my gas light come on. How low does it need to get before it goes on?

Don't think I've ever been that low. I'll have to verify the light isn't burnt out.

For my R50, it comes on when there's 10 liters / 2.5 gallons left -- requiring at least 62L / 16 gallons at the pump. Not that I make a habit of getting that low, but it comes on very early compared to other vehicles I've driven. Not sure when it comes on with a '98, though.

I filled up this morning and I put in just over 16 gallons. Light never came on.

I cant get the lock/unlock combo to honk when pushed together. However the horn works and the alarm button on the remote sets it off.

Also when lighting up my dash board I dont see the gas pump. All I have is a small circle under the gas gauge.

It does, but my gauges are black background. I was thinking that circle to the left of the E on empty was supposed to illuminate.

I cant get the lock/unlock combo to honk when pushed together. However the horn works and the alarm button on the remote sets it off. I tried next to the car. With the car on. Nothing seemed to work.

My key fob looks like this:

Per the owner's manual, it seems that there is no "low fuel" indicator.

Does the keyfob have any instructions on the back?

No instructions on the back other than how to lock/unlock the doors.

Taking another look at the owner's manual and the FSM, it seems that you cannot change the alert mode of the keyfob, so you're stuck with the flashing only.

Interesting gas light. Never seen that before.

The fuel level sending unit gauge probably just moved around a little when you went over a hill or bump or something and triggered the gas light. It looks like the fuel level is correct for the gas light to be lit. Or, it's coated with sulfur which could make the fuel gauge misread the level. Techron is known to clean sulfur off fuel system components; AAP has the 20oz bottles for buy one get one for a dollar this month.

Does yours come on for a few minutes, go off, and come back on solid? Almost like a warning before its on for good?

It should not do that. It should stay lit solid once it actually becomes lit. An engine restart may make it go off for a mile or two if you just triggered the gas light.

the gas light just runs off the fuel level sensor.... our R50's only have one sensor in the tank and it is easy to manipulate on inclines.... sometimes the gas light might go on when driving uphill and then turn off and you hit the downhill....

its normal for it to go on/off when it first illuminates. Drive about 20 miles and then it'll stay lit.

PS not good to drive with gas that low (our in-tank fuel pumps are cooled by the gasoline so they run hot when gas is low)
