Akebono upgrade on 06-10 M35/45:
:poke: :gotme :poke: :gotme
Wondering if anyone that had upgraded to akebono ever tried to use the larger calipers of the front for the back also, in other words, Has anyone upgraded to akebono large front calipers in ALL FOUR CORNERS???
Also, wondering if anyone with tech experience knows of a way it can be done??? Maybe using brake mounting from the front :gotme

I'm not sure, you'd have to also think about rotors, brake lines and also parking brake. But I'm sure it's possible if you really want it.

Isn't the rear rotor smaller? Not sure it will fit.

i think i have seen dual rear calipers done on the M with a custom bracket. but the second caliper was used for drifting (Ebrake)

You would have to consider the brake pressure balance to use a front caliper for a rear setup. The rear doesn't see full pressure from the booster like the front cause if it did, every time you press the brakes, the rear would lock up due to the weight shifting forward. On my set up I have a 6 piston front a 4 piston rear. Even though its a 4 piston caliper, the piston are a lot smaller. fluid channels are a tad bit larger than stock which keeps the firmness at the pedal as well as the whole system staying balanced pressure wise. Not saying that it cant be done. But its gonna take a lot more than just rotors and a bracket.

I got you ^ I did consider that but wasn't thinking it through completely! I may just do the akebono front and keep the rear oem M35! I can't find the rear for sale alone and I really was thinking I didn't NEED it! :gotme your thoughts on that??

I depends on how bad you want the look. I would do the front & keep a lookout for the rear. the cheapest ive seen a complete set up was between 7 and 8 bills. I know a few owners of some import yards & may save you a few bills on a set. I'll make a few calls

Ok sounds good, I only need rear so I'll start with the front and when I find a good deal on the rear I'll pick them up! Only looking for the calipers and hardware, I'll get my own rotors (and pads of course)!

Nice. I had a set of Wildwoods, 6 front, 4 rear with 2 piece rotors on my Y50. Debating if I'll try to put them on the Y51 or sell them.

Want to hear your thoughts and opinions in running front akebono bbk on my M35 and standard stock OEM rear brakes :gotme I've ordered new wheels and the akebono will not be entirely visible since they're full face VIP style wheels so not worried about the "look" most interested in the performance of the bbk. Brand new performance slotted rotors will be used so they should perform great!!

Any thoughts and prior experience is a plus!! :bigthumb:

I've seen some people only run front akebono and notice a slight increase in braking perfformance. It's a shame you're going to cover them up with the new wheels. If you want used calipers check out myg37 classifieds or 370z forum.

I think you'll be fine with just the front BBK and stock rears. I remember I was going through the same dilemma when I had my 07 MB E350 sport -- it had the bigger sport calipers/cross-drilled rotors up front, yet the non-sport for the rears. Performance was good, but it did look a little "off" each time I looked at it - but I was looking to replace all four with the AMG's.... it was going to be TOO pricey for my budget -- I think if I go back to MB, I'll get a used C63 AMG and call it a day :gapteeth:

even today, I'll see some benz's with the sport brake kits up front and the non-sport in the rears...I guess it's still doing good for performance, but looks.... :gotme

Check out z1motorsports, that's where I bought mine from, the brakes are AWESOME! That's how my 06 M45S should've come originally.
