It's getting close to the time for doing the brakes on the the car. I was wondering if anyone had any comments/experience about Akebono pads on their M37x. I have used these pads before on my previous vehicles (both Acuras) with no problems.
BTW, does anyone have a write-up on doing the front rotor(s) replacement. I was able to find a youtube video on the rear rotor(s) and brakes replacement.

Front and back the same. Remove wheels, remove calipers and suspend with bungee, love tap rotor from back, spin rotor to knock different angles, use penatrating oil if necessary at hub. Reverse for install. Pop out old pads, pop in new pads greasing all sliding points and back of pads. Bolt caliper back on. Follow bed in procedure.

I haven't tried this brand for my M yet but I know brother had these on his Lexus GS350 and he was really happy with them. At the time he was dealing with his brake pads constantly squealing even though it was a really thick brake pad. He swapped them out for the Akebono pads and the sound went away. Hope that helps!

Yes I pulled the trigger on these pads and since the rotors on the car are the originals, I went with the EBC Premium (solid) rotors. I've ordered the pads from Tirerack for my previous vehicle, but they don't carry them for the M37.
So I ended up getting the pads from Advanced Auto (about $120 for front and rear) with a 20% off coupon. I ordered the rotors from JC Whitney for about $220. I have not had the chance to get install everything but will do so this week.

Sounds good, I've been meaning to get pads and rotors for both my M's a little over 2 months now..the X won't make it another week so I think I'll go the same route as you..

In case you're wondering, I didn't do a HowTo for the Y51 yet, but the brake job is virtually identical to the Y50...so go to the FAQ link in my signature and find my HowTo for that.

Tirerack does have all the parts, just don't put "X". You need to choose RWD base model since all the parts are the same, not sure why they don't list anything for the AWD.

Sent an email to Tire Rack. They are changing the database to give us Infiniti MX customers more options than just brake fluid. They said the changes should show up by Thursday.

Thanks, I don't know why I didn't think of that!
Rockauto.com also sells Akebono for a better price, along with some performance rotors, but not quite as much as Tirerack.
