Hey everyone. I decided to start a new thread for my car. I unfortunately do not have dyno sheets yet as I have been very busy with theatre lately.

I had to get a new bolt for the harmonic damper as the Fisher Concepts unit is thicker than stock- I hope to be getting that on this weekend (for those that are curious- it is slightly lighter than stock and is underdriven, however it appears that Fisher is no longer in business as they do not return emails and the listed phone number does not work- their customer service was crap and while their product appears to be well built, it came without timing marks). When I switch it out I will try to get some pics side by side if I can.I have also had a very horrible squealing noise coming from the engine after turning it off. It seems to be heat related so I think that it might just be something that needs to be tightened (electric fan works fine, radiator isn't leaking). Hopefully DJpants will be able to help me out. After this is done, I hope to be able to take it to the dragstrip and get a 1/4mile time and get the car dynoed (this may be more difficult, as I don't know any place that dynos on a Sunday which is basically my only free day ).I've also finished my new component speaker system in my doors (got some cheap door panels but didn't realize they were for manual doors- what am I going to do with these holes? Tweeters, of course). I'll get some pics of those here too.

Also need to workout the O2 sensor bung clearance issue (S14 header, I think, interferes with steering)

Yes I am driving it around on nicer days. I am still getting re-used to the car- it has been 16 months, but I've basically fallen in love with the car again.Initial impressions with conservative timing and the harmonic damper still to put on:Car seems to be about as strong as it was when it was stock on the low end. Hitting @4000 on the tach and you can definitely tell its got more power, but is also very smooth. 1st and 2nd gears wind out quickly and dropping into 3rd in the tunnels on 94- this thing sounds flat out pissed off. I love it.I'm looking forward to getting a timeslip and dyno.I'm also currently waiting on a set of new springs for my coilovers which will be put on in May along with a full corner-weighted alignment.

My mechanic is the one that ordered most of the parts. I know the Ross pistons were actually custom made- he knows the guys there- and the Eagle rods probably came from his normal supplier, whoever that may be.

Compression was increased to 10.5:1, certainly not the highest you can go from what I hear, but I didn't want to be running on the edge- main purpose of the rebuild is to last another 200000 miles.

DJPants is my hero!He helped me out this weekend as we put the Fisher damper in my car. The unit is at least 2 lbs lighter (no working scale available), underdriven on the alternator (I have a 110 amp upgraded alternator). There isn't much difference in performance that I felt, but I bought the piece for protection from harmonic vibrations. Its also a heck of a lot prettier in aluminum than that black steel piece. I took pics with my dad's camera so I hope to have those up next week.I know many of you are hungry for dyno charts, but I'm too busy with theatre projects right now. I am set to return to my mechanic in late May to get everything looked over, make sure everything is running right and make some dyno runs (at that time we will do a bit of tweakking with base timing- its pretty conservative right now).

you all should hear the noise his car makes after you turn it off

it should like a 2000lb steel door screeching shut, in two different stages immediately ater the car is shut off....

i really have no clue as to what it could be, as its obviously some moving part that actuates when the ignition is turned off. if my computer ddnt jsut crash i would check my FSM because i know the IACV actuates before the car starts for 2 seconds, but i dont know about after....

anyway, his car is TITS, and i like the N/A build a lot. now you need to strip the piss outta it, and maybe look into getting a new coolant temp sensor. its 25 bucks from Nissan, and although you have JWT cams and ECU i feel like you should have even more power than you do. maybe we can try my brand new one jsut to see, but it might be a good investment as ive heard they should be replaced every two years

see ya next weekend ajax

Not yet- I am taking it to get finished up May 20thNeed Nismo mounts (header rubs on steering on hard rights), new springs being installed, alignment and corner weighting, and final tune and dyno.

Your still using the stock coil, with the SCI ignition system??? Rev that engine too much and you will fry the stock coil.......

I have to ask my mechanic about it. I asked him to get me the MSD coil, but there isn't one on the car. Thanks for reminding me- one more thing to talk to add to the list...I haven't been driving it too hard- yes it gets reved but never for sustained periods of time- I should be okay until I can get the new coil.

kinda on the subject of pullies, I heard with our(ka's)long stroke crank we would want to keep as much mass on the crank to absorb the vibrations. I dont want to beleive that, I would rather spin a light imballanced crank than a heavy one. Can anyone enlighten me on this? Light crank safer? or heavier?

Finally! Pictures of the Fisher Concepts Harmonic Damper, side by side with stock. As you can see, the Fisher unit is underdrive. It is slightly lighter (probably 2-3 lbs), and has a thick center section which required special ordering of a bolt to attach the darn thing to the crank. To be honest, I couldn't tell too mouch difference between the two, but hopefully it will ultimately save stress on the engine.I chose this unit after reading about Fisher in SCC (300zx project) and talking to Don Nimi at PDM. While Don has used aftermarket pulleys (UR, ASP), he doesn't offer them for the KA because of the long stroke and (correct me if I'm wrong please) 1/2 weighted counter-balance (instead of fully counter-balanced) which could cause an engine to fail due to torsional stress (THEORETICALLY- I know there are tons of people on this forum using aftermarket pulleys on their KAs- that's just what Don Nimi told me when I was searching for KA options years ago- he still only supplies pulleys for SR, no KA).Theoretically, the Fisher unit will help to reduce torsional vibrations and thereby reduce wear and help translate power from vibration into rotation. It has more effect on V8s and Harleys than on our KA with the forged crank; I decided every bit helps. That's all I got.

Did you break it in good or you doing a dyno run on a non-brokin in engine? If so there some horsepower to be had with a really good break in.

By the time it is dynoed, I should have about 2800 miles. We'll switch to synthetic then do some tuning.

Nice ka. Hey DJ im done with ka's for good another ka bites the dust this time with gaping hole in side of block. I just bought a rb20 for my s13 to replace the ka. I should have it by this weekend. I just need andrew to get his wire on and I should be roasting the tires in a month tops. I will try to give you a jingle long time no talk. Sorry for the tread jack but I never see dj. O it nice to see another clean 240 in mn.
