i've altered the AIV solenoid, can i stop here and be done? or do i need to go after the tanks as well?
i direct connected the balance tube line to the boost sensor, and removed the T section connecting the EGR and AIV so the EGR has a straight connection to where it needs to go. i also unplugged the engine harness sensor

the AIV solenoid is still sitting there connected to the tanks, but not much else..

I would just remove everything that has to do with the whole AIV system... except the tanks inside the fenders if you don't want to take your fenders off. Simplifying the engine bay in Z32's is key to diagnosing future/present problems in my opinion.

i have to take the front wheels off anyway to do the brakes, maybe i'll yank the tanks then, maybe even see if i can spot the carbon canister.. should i crush the exhaust lines that run to the aiv tanks so they're plugged? or just leave them?

You can probably get a pipe plug in the correct size from an auto parts/hardware store if you have the stock cats. That way you can remove them completely.
