I recently removed the AIV from my '91 240sx. I traced the two small vacuum lines back to the throttle body, removed them and put a rubber cap on the throttle body tubes. The vacuum line that was T'd into the intake was also removed and a rubber cap was placed over it. Lastly, I removed the metal tube that attaches to the exhaust manifold and replaced with a plug (Nissan p/n 14052-21R00). Now whenever I come to a stop, the car will idle at about 1500 rpms. After about 5 seconds, it drops down to 900 rpms and stays there. The only thing I did not plug was the hole going into the air intake box, but I did not think this would make a difference since it is before the air gets metered by the MAF. Any help would be appreciated.

Just a piece of advice. Plug up the hole that is in the intake box, because it goes into the box after the filter. You do not want anything to get in there and cause problems. You should probably adjust your idle down to 700 rpms +-50. That is what it should be running at (FSM Spec). 900 rpms is a bit high. you can adjust your idle with a flat head screwdriver on the AICV valve that is loaced on the back of the intake manifold. That might help your problem. I removed my AIV valve and I do not have these problems, but mine idles at exactly 700 rpms. Hope this helps you out

p.s. don't forget to plug the hole.
