I recently pondered removing my AIV as it makes working around the P/S equipment obtrusive. Since I have no welder and can't find a fitting ANYWHERE to plug it up, my best idea is to use a quarter sealed with JB weld. I think this is crazy dangerous and probably won't work, but I'm not sure about the tendencies of JB weld in such a situation. Anyone wanna enlighten me?

i don't know about your car, but on other cars the AIV bung is the same size as the EGR bungs. I know for a fact that there are plugs available for the EGR bungs, so it'll also work to block up the AIV bung. I believe if you search the board you'll be able to get more info about the EGR plug.

JB weld would work, You just have to take your time and prepare the surfaces properly and allow it time to dry/harden. You should give it a couple of coats of the JB weld, it'll be getting real hot. Also it'll look bad unless you sand it off and make it look nice.

I didn't realize the AIV bung was the same as the EGR bung, I know that heavythrottle sells an EGR block off for the SR, but I didn't realize it was unilateral. However, since I am a low-dollar fanatic I have a feeling JB weld and a quarter are cheaper than a plug, so I'll probably be going for that. Thanks for the info!!

The egr block off plates people sell aren't for the bungs, those are for the intake manifold where the egr valve connects. The egr plug is just a big bolt. I would buy the bolt if i were you. If it ever so happens that the jb weld doesn't hold up, then you have the messy task of removing all the jb weld there and having to do it again. JB weld isn't all that cheap compared to the plug. I believe JB weld is rated to 500 degrees. Find out of the exhaust gets hotter than that and you're in business.

yes the exhaust gets hotter than 500 degrees. A quarter will not fit in the hole, but two nickels work magnificently well. And it is $.15 cheaper than using a quarter!!!!

Hah, two nickels, nice, yeah, I knew exhaust temps run around 1250 fahrenheit, I think I'm just going to bend the pip over and weld it shut, bout time I bought a welder anyway..........

THE VOICE OF EXPERIENCE--I simply used one nickel, no jb weld or any of that stuff, and took the threaded collar off the AIV tube. Stick the nickel in the hole in the headpipe, thread the collar in, and crank the hell out of it with a wrench. I did that months ago and it's fine
