my car was making really strange fluttering type noises. so i open the hood and find that the hose coming of the metal tube from my exhaust manifold has a tear in it and has been spitting soot onto my brake booster.

when i took my AIV out, i plugged that hole with a tuner lug and tightened a hose clamp.

im thinking maybe cut off the torn portion and put the rest of the hose back on, but what can i do to stop it from happening again in the next few months? other than welding the metal portion closed, (no time). poke some holes in it to reduce pressure on the inside?? :help

When I tried to take mine out, the end fitting that bolts into the manifold broke in half on me, leaving the pipe in the manifold, and a cut metal line. I clamped a hose onto the pipe as close to the fitting, and clamped a bolt into the hose.

Take the AIV out. You can go to the dealership and get a AIV plug to plug the hole in your exhaust manifold. I believe that Nissan put the AIV in to help smooth out the idle, or something like that. Latter vehicles did not come with one.

i took the AIV out a few months ago.

about this plug that the dealership sells, where exactly does it plug it at?? the hose? or the manifold itself?

last night i put the plugged hose back on as a temp. solution, theres nothing stopping it from happening again, i only need it fixed until i can get a turbo (few months maybe)

ive been runnning with a large bolt clamped into the end of the rubber line for quite a while now. shot some black paint on it so the clamp doesn't catch any attention.

Take the metal pipe out of the exhaust manifold. Buy a plug from the dealership that bolts in to the hole left by the pipe. Disconnect all the wiring, piping, and vac. lines (make sure to plug the vac. lines) than take the entire AIV assembly out. This will leave a big hole in the side of your airbox that would need to be pluged also, ever since its beneath the filter.
