Airbag Warning Light

My 2008 G37 Coupe with 54,500 careful miles now has a continual airbag warning light on.
The local dealer and Infiniti Corporate suggest that the only remedy is to replace the passenger seat bottom and add the labor for an expense of $5,000. Sure seems outrageous that we should be responsible for a federally mandated safety feature. Suggestions?

What exactly are "careful miles" as opposed to regular miles?

Get a second opinion from another Infiniti dealer.

I had the problem in my previous 06 G35 and ended up having to replace the wiring harness. The dealer quote was $2200.00 but I was able to successfully argue and negotiate a three way split with the dealer and corporate Infiniti at 136971 miles.
I had purchased the Infiniti Elite extended warranty from this dealer which was expired.

If the second opinion produces the same result, sell the vehicle
