Is it legal to replace a steering wheel that contains an airbag with one that does not? I can't find any information on this anywhere. Even the trusty NICO search button yielded me no results. Does the legality of such a replacement relate in any way to the year the car was made? For instance, perhaps it is legal if the car was manufactured when the airbag was still an option and not required by law. Sorry if this has been covered before, but I tried the search button and got nothing.

Wow...holy crap this is old.

Thanks for the answer, though...especially as it's actually quite useful right now. My cousin "totalled" her car a few days ago (airbag deployed) and I was wondering if she could just put an autozone wheel on and call it good.

Oh well...that's what she gets for driving a Suzuki Areo...the whole engine compartment is about two feet long. Get in an accident in one and it's gone for good.

Car's the definition of fugly anyhow...her's is red...her mother has a yellow hatchback one...even uglier. They think they're "cute".

I could never figure out why they have such tiny tires...there are zero benefits and some negative effects of tiny tires: bad ride, poor traction, faster tire wear (they spin quite a bit faster...adds up quickly) plus it adds to the cars overall disproportionate fugliness (I like that word today...not sure why).

Ya know, if that car were normally proportioned, with those sized wheels, it'd be about 20' long.
