Air Bag Sensor Issue Prompts Nissan RecallCompany Says Recall Includes Altimas, Infinitis, Muranos, Rogues

POSTED: 11:21 am EDT October 15, 2008UPDATED: 11:52 am EDT October 15, 2008

WASHINGTON -- Nissan Motor Co. is recalling more than 200,000 vehicles to fix a sensor system that could affect the car's passenger side air bag.

Nissan said that the recall includes 140,000 Nissan Altima cars from the 2007-2008 model years. It also involves 2007-2008 model years of the Infiniti EX35, G35 Sedan, G37 and the Nissan 350Z, Murano and Rogue.

The Japanese automaker said Wednesday an issue with an electronic component could interrupt a signal in the sensor system.

That could prevent the passenger air bag from deploying under certain conditions.

A Nissan spokesman said there have been no injuries or crashes.

Most of the recalled vehicles are in the U.S.; others are in Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Persian Gulf.

You should get something in the mail, or you can call your dealer and provide them with your VIN.

If you're affected you should definately get something in the mail, and to be sure you can just contact your Nissan Service Dept. and ask if you are affected, they'll be able to tell you right away.

Reopening this thread. I just took my hybrid to the dealer to have the sensor fixed since it always switches between on and off with my gf in the seat (she's ~105lbs). They set it so the airbag is ALWAYS on. At least the light is off, but that's not the solution I expected. Did anyone else get this fixed and what has been their experience? I don't want to ***** if this is what they did for everyone, but I'd rather have the right fix than something that is dangerous for people under 100 lbs (yes, kids should sit in the back) and no longer allows me to reduce my insurance a little bit by having it off when no passenger is in the car.

edit: I know this is the rogue forum, but was looking for anywhere to ask others who had this done
