Airbag question

Okay, my V is new and this may be a dumb question, but I've driven older vehicles all of my life and never dealt with airbags before, so maybe some can answer this easily for me. I commute solo to work, but everytime I get into the car, my passenger airbag off light always is on. Is it because there isn't someone in the passenger seat as to why its not staying on or do I have a defect that I need to get taken care of?

do u have something on the passenger seat? because our seats have a sensor which tells u that something less then about 60lbs or so on the seat, the light will come on, because the sensor thinks its a small child there that isnt suppose to be there.
