Airbag Module failure causing blinking light on dash, help

Traveling from west to east, entered more humid climate traveled a brief distance and stopped. Restarting after a few hours the red warning airbag light came on and has not ceased to blink since then (approx 4000 miles). Took it to Nissan and they refused to repair costs under warranty, vehicle had 38000 at the time, and the repair would cost $800. Independent garage quoted me at $500. Has anybody else had a similar problem and found a solution or knows where to find and how to install a module DIY? Thanks

Since some of you guys here are new owners I thought I'd save you a trip to the dealer once your airbag light starts blinking. I'm not sure what set's it off, but at some point you will likely end up with a flashing airbag sensor light. Here is how to reset it yourself, it really works.

(For Keyless start vehicles, turn vehicle on and off as directed below)
1. Turn the key from off to on.

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly.

3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

my light has also been blinking and the dealer is telling me i need a new unit. The airbag will not deploy and he wants $1,100 to fix it. Anyone have any ideas?

not much you can do at this point other then replace it. You might be able to find one at a junk yard, but that is a PITA. You could do the work yourself............or deal with the blinking and no airbag.
