Hey guys/gals,

My name is Alex, and I recently acquired a 1991 N/A 2+0 300ZX. The car is great, but unfortunately, I've already encountered a few problems with it. I was told by the previous owner that there was something wrong with the battery, but when I tested it, it was fine. Now, here's my dilmmea: Normally when you turn the ignition to the ON position, all the lights on the dash come on, and then some of them turn off after a few seconds, right? Well, the CEL doesn't turn off, but when I start the car it does, so that's a relief. The airbag light, however, doesn't turn off and stays on even while the car is running. Another problem I have is that the radio, which is an aftermarket radio, has no power. Also, I don't know if it's just a Z thing, but the car seems to crank over kind of on the slow side, but I've never had the car not start.

So to summarize:

Airbag light stays on even when the car is running.

No power to the radio.

The CEL doesn't turn off like it's supposed to after a few seconds but does when I start the car.

The car cranks over kind of slowly but has never failed to start.

What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks,
-Alex-

If it helps any, I just noticed that none of the cabin lights work, and the car doesn't make that ding sound when the door is open.

Nevermind, I fixed the airbag and cabin light problems. It turns out it was just the 10A "Theft" fuse in the kick panel.

Unfortunately, my radio still doesn't work. I checked the audio 1 and audio 2 fuses, and they're fine. Any ideas before I take everything apart to get that thing out and inspect it?

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly what it was, a blown fuse. I didn't want to take the radio out since I have never done anything like that, but taking it out wasn't as scary/messy as I thought it was going to be. :)

Ok...here's the problem now. When I put the new fuse into the stereo, it blows the fuse instantaneously.

Any ideas?

bad ground or broken ground wire is your best bet

Ok, there's a wire back there that is grounded. I tested the continuity of the wire with a multimeter, and it seems fine. It's weird because when I plug in the stereo harness, without that ground wire, the fuse doesn't blow up and my antenna raises up. There is still no power to the stereo though. As soon as I touch that ground wire to anywhere on the stereo, the fuse blows up, and the antenna comes back down. The same thing happens when I touch the antenna connection to anywhere on the stereo.

Any ideas?
