It's a fairly common issue. Your Nissan dealer should fix it for you. Don't let them charge you for it.

This is one of the most common minor defects rolling off teh assembly line. What date was your car produced? I expected they would have this resolved by now.

I took my car in yesterday ot look at it. I'll find out what the leadtime on the part is Tuesday.

I'd hardly call it "minor" when we have no idea if the airbag will even deploy correctly in that state. It might not deploy at all, or it might deploy with too much force (since the clips that hold it in place aren't actually attached).

Get it in ASAP, it could potentially be a very serious safety concern.

Funny, since lately the Germans have been having quality control about on par with the big 3...

It's even worse than that. The last data I've seen (I think Consumers Reports) has Mercedes at the very bottom of ALL manufacturers. Ford has actually moved into the top 1/3. Nissan is actually down near the bottom 1/3. BMW was about average. VW and Audi were also in the bottom 1/3.

I have the same problem, the part is in but I'm waiting for my gauge assembly to come in so I can get everything done in the same day, some stuff that I've put off since I first got the car. Hopefully they can get my oil changed, switch my gauge assembly, pull out a ding on the driver's side door that came with the car, replace the airbag cover, and replace the driver's side view mirror which shakes when I drive 40mph+.

I think it's more a design issue. Mine came off the truck this way, the air bag assembly was replaced (after many weeks of waiting!) and the new one developed the same problem after a few weeks, so I'm waiting for number three to come in.

The dealer tried to assure me that it is not a safety issue, since the whole cover is designed to be blown up and away from the passenger, but it still makes me wonder...

I brought it in...they are replacing the "entire airbag assembly".

I also had a blown fuse - couldn't charge my phone. He said "it happens".

My versa was built 7/4/06.

That is an "Early" Versa, one within the date build range of the cars with a TSB put out in regards to their TPMS system. Keep an eye on your dash light,..

I hope popping it bakc in place works for you. I wish it was that simple for most with the problem. I did that twice and it popped ou within 1 or 2 days. The dealer that I took it to ordered that part, but also tried poping it bakc in. It was still sticking up 1/8" and stayed there for 1 day before poping out the rest of the way.

Is that the only thing to look for - a light on my dash?
