Hello, I have a Cone air filter that did not any a place for the Air Temp Sensor so I just would stick it in the cone between sections. It would always fall out & I would stick it back in. The last time it came out the top part(looks like a diode was gone) so I unpluged it. Should I plug it back in with the way it is. Can I splice the two wires leading to the sensor so that it is on all the time. I really do not know if that would do anything. I have checked with other posts and people just do not know where to put them and get help, but I cannot fine a post with a broken top bart of the senson. I know it has something to do with the mixture but not sure if it makes it richer or leaner unpluged. I know there is some crazy kit that they sell on Ebay with the sensor and a resistor. Please tell me if 1 - I should leave it unpluged 2 - Plug it in with the top piece missing 3 - Try to fine another and get it into the cone so it does not break off again.

THANKS THANKS

I got the apex power intake. I just drilled a hole in the aluminum manifold that came with it and put the rubber grommet in there, then sealed around the edges with archery epoxy (that stuff is damn near heat resistant). Thats what I did and I have an s14.

I would try to find a replacement for it, new or used, it doesn't matter as long as it works. Here's what it does, as far as I understand: The ECU sends voltage to the sensor and looks for resistance. When hot, the sensor puts out almost no resistance, when frozen in a freezer (someone tested it according to another thread), it's around 10k ohms. The ECU sees the resistance, along with other input from other sensors, and adjusts mixture, spark advance, etc.

When you get your new sensor, it's better if it's attached to the intake where it can test for actual air temp., but if that's not possible, at least attach it near the air filter so that it will get a better idea of what's going on.

Do not splice the wires together as it will see no resistance and you will run lean all the time, and may trigger a trouble (check engine) light. Unplugging it will likely do it too.
