How does the ECU tend to react without an air temp sensor input on the Consult 1 cars? I know on the OBDII it will throw a code, and I believe it drops to a high temp correction (retarded timing) but doesn't trim the fuel.

Do they just drop to the base map and ignore any correction?

The intake air temp sensor is only used for diagnostic purposes. It compares ambient temp to coolant temp to see if the coolant temp is ball park to what it expects to see. If the coolant temp is out of expected range it will use the ambient temp as a back up for start up mixture. After that the ecm guesses where engine temp should be and substitues a value on the consult. If the coolant temp were failing then yes it would go into a failsafe condition.
