For those of you who know about my little problem, I think I might finally have an answer to it. I wanted to throw out a theory here and see if it holds water or not.

For those of you who don't know, here it is. No matter what boost I am running, RPMS, or gear, if I jump on the throttle the car will just cut out completely. It basically just stops running until I back off the throttle completely and then ease back into it. Even if I ease into it gently it will cut out sometimes too.

So.... here is my theory. The intake arm (from the MAF to the turbo) is crap. Mine is really soft rubber and it has almost like a pinch in it. And what I think is happening is when I get on the throttle, and it starts sucking air into the turbo the intake is collapsing and pinching off the airflow. That would be the only thing that can describe what is happening when I jump on the throttle. It feels like the car just runs out of breath.

So when I back off the throttle and the intake is repressurized, it will expand back and allow me to suck more air in until it collapses on itself again.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening? I mean, it seems pretty far fetched, but it is the only thing that I can narrow it down to. Please tell me I am crazy and the cause of all my headaches are not because of the crappy intake arm.

I am going to try and make a hard pipe intake out of a Civic intake from Auto Zone for 30 bucks tomorrow on my day off and hope that fixes my problem.

Any thoughts?

Joe

it could also be your air filter choking it from not gaeeting any air also

i saw a video of the air filter box on an audi tt 1.8t collapsing under full throttle, so i can believe that what you think is happening is true. try the good ol' standalone with a manifold pressure sensor and a big turbo, ya know, so you can just run it without the intake buisness all together. or you could be a jerk and NOT spend excessive amounts of money and get a new pipe or a metal one. its worth a try. id go with the metal as you know it wouldnt be the problem if it still did it, gotta remove all the uncertainty factors. i forget if youve tried a new ecu? if not, might wanna swap with someone for a few minutes and see if thats the problem. good luck on finding out whats wrong, and then fixing it.

haha, or maybe slw240 just decided to play a cruel trick on you and swapped your ecu with a modified one with a heinously low full throttle engine cutoff when you were working on the car. just a thought.

Maybe your right, normally there's a metal device (looks like a big thin spring) to avoid collapsing inside the stock rubber CA intake arm, if there's non in yours it might be the cause.

There should be a "spring" (hose support) inside the intake pipe. As they stated it will look like a spring. It's actually there to keep the hose from collapsing under boost. Sooo, if you pull the MAFS and there isn't a coil support in there, that is probabally where your problem is. Good luck!
