hi, the air regulator sits just beneath the throttle body and is prone to getting stuck open or closed, thus affecting idle rev on cold start.

i was wondering if anyone knows if the ca18det air regulator can be successfully replaced with another air regulator from another nissan?

thank you

I know for a fact that one from a CA18DE (US model 88 Pulsar NX SE) does NOT work.

The RB30E Nissan engine in the Nissan R31 Skyline, and Holden VL Commodore will work, but may need to be mounted elsewhere.

The problem with blocking it off is that if you live in a cold climate you will have a very hard time starting the car.

ive blocked mine off, and a lot of DSM guys block it off too. Yes it is harder to start when it gets colder i.e you have to hold your foot on the gas for a couple of minutes, but its not THAT big of a hassle to me atleast. Plus IMHO removing stuff from the engine bay that are not ENTIRELY needed makes things look cleaner and also reduces the amount of vacuum lines, electrical lines and makes things alittle bit easier to work on.

It's interesting that everytime I research a fix option, someone creates a thread asking about the stuff that I have been trying to find info on.

Can anyone confirm the SR20DE air reg working? I have read various threads detailing the use of parts from other Nissan vehicles, but they require new mounting solutions and wiring/plumbing solutions.

I always thought it was kinda universal.....they all look the same, like the z32, s12, s13 to name a few. I guess the connector must be different? I can check the one on my ca18et and see if it's the same if needed

blow through the unit first.. it should flow something. Attach 12v from a battery, and 3 minutes later you shouldnt be able to blow much through (as it will have closed)

If it doesn't close..this could cause a higher than expected idle. Which you should be able to 'tune out', using the 10mm hex on the back of the AAC valve.

They're not all the same. Most don't have 2 hose connections. Most feed the air directly into the manifold via the side of the unit. The CA uses and inlet and outlet hose.

It's normally in the open state. So when it's cold, air should pass through it easily. The colder it is, the more air should pass through it. If you connect 12V to it (it's not polarity sensitive) after 5 min or so there should be little to no air flow through it.
