Thanks for the reply. I had a mechanic test the air mass sensor and i need another one. The car starts and runs fine. However, when the ambient temperature is 90 degrees or warmer, it won't start. I cleaned the air mass sensor with maf cleaner and that seemed to help a little. T-top season is almost here and i want to enjoy my z31 and not have to deal with a no start when it is hot. I saw a new air mass sensor on ebay for sale but it was for an 88-89 z31. I asked the owner if it would work and he said there are 3 different air mass sensors that were used in the z31. Courtesy Nissan confirmed this. I plugged my vin into the registry and learned that my car has California emissions, although it lists the wrong color. i would like to get a replacement air mass sensor but don't want to spend $429. Upon further research I learned that i might need a blue label sensor. For such a common problem, i figured that there would be well documented information on the subject. Apparently not. The car in question has 69,995 original miles and has a lot of new parts. The fsm doesn't mention it unless I missed it. Thanks again for your response. If you know which one i need i appreciate it. If you have an extra one that will work, i will buy it from you if the price is reasonable. Btw, the car is not throwing any codes, and is a fantastic driver other than this issue.
