Do you have a link to what you bought.. perhaps they have some pictures of a finished product..

for example..

Basically, you should have a cone air filter. That should connect to the stock MAF sensor. Then another tube should run accross the engine and curve in to the intake manifold. You should have fittings and clamps for each connection it makes, as well as some extra tubes for the pre-throttle body air connections (IACV and AAC). You probably also have a few brackets and other fasteners that help keep the intake in a proper position.

Why don't you take a photo of what parts you have... and we can help you determine how to install them.

thanks Chi!

I must admit that I jump at the chance to help out with whatever I can. Lately I've been feeling guilty that I don't have the knowledge and expertise that you and 94_240sx and others have on some of the more complicated situations..

iirc, that part at the bottom of the plastic intake piping should be a resonator you can ditch that. The other metal hardware with the rubber and the studs pokin out of it are for support at the other end where the filter is.

you can ditch the stock resonator tube. The one that you asked about before... the tube that goes down from the bottom of the pipe near the left side of the radiator.. the one that you circled.

it's not a vital part for a higher performance intake kit.

The two little brackets should be for securing the intake in place. Notice in the picture of the red setup on the top... on the radiator fan shroud there is a little red bracket... that should be one of the two little metal brackets. Those are there to keep the intake from bumping around and coming loose.

Once you start taking the old one apart and test fitting the new one... the peices will fit together and it will make more sense.

Let us know if you need more help.

The hose you don't need? Assuming there isn't an opening at the bottom of that new pipe you got for your intake kit, here is what you do.

1. lift your old intake parts over your head2. run screaming towards the corner of your garage3. heave your old intake parts into that corner4. stand and take a gander at how marvelous those plastic parts fit in the corner of your garage.

In the event you do have an opening at the bottom of that new intake pipe, block it off.

Maybe its my new meds, but for some reason I immediatly pictured a midget running through a garage with an intake over his head screaming like tattoo....strange.

On a side note, not sure how emissions are in PA, but save everything you pulled out since in case they dont pass you on visual.

Nope, just a random one that I found on the net.

Did you install your intake yet? C'mon already... we're all getting impatient.

Ok.. let's sort this out so that you can get it installed and be happy again.

Sounds like your last question is regarding the tube that drops from the intake tract just after it curves past the radiator.

Did you inspect that tube to see where it goes? I think you'll find that it's a dead-end. Most factory intake tracts have resonance chambers. They are just dead ends for air pulses to bounce into when they reverberate off a closed throttle body. It will have some benefit in quicker throttle response for a stock intake system, but the gains of a low resistance aftermarket intake setup will far outpace the loss of this little chamber.

I can get into more detail if you want... but rest assured... it's not needed. Your intake system has all the parts it needs and will work just fine.

Look.. I've been in your shoes before... Heck I'm still right there... I'm not confident enough to take on the project until I've fully researched it and made sure I know what I'm doing. That's good... but on the other hand.. you'll never get anything done, and you'll never learn everything you need to. Sometimes you just need to dive in and figure it out.

Find a couple hours of free time this weekend and start working. Unscrew the couplers, unbolt the brackets and start taking the intake system apart. Then put the replacement parts back on. It'll be like a little puzzle.. but very easy.. You'll see how they piece together... it will make sense.

if you have trouble with it... take a photo and post it up... We'll help you out.

My K&N cold air fitler came with a tag that passes smog visuals. So keep your stock parts b/c you may need it. As for the tube to the resonator that goes down and is bolted onto the shroud you can take that out and store it. You wont need it when you install the egay kit. I dont know why you wont just go through it. Some of us are here to help you if you get stuck so just go through with it, its more straight forward than it seems.
