ok so i have a 2002 nissan sentra se-r spec v i went out and bought a k&n air filter, put that on and it was fine. i took off the connector plastic piece where my intake was pullin from to regulate the air induction. what i want to know is will this do anything to my engine? since there is no regulator and its sucking in mad air. please inform me if i need to put that piece back on. i drove to and from work today which is about 8 miles round trip, and it was runnin fine. but i dont wanna drive with it off, not knowin if something can potentially mess up my engine. being that im on my second one. thanks.~deezy_spec_v~

Plastic piece as in the resonator box and its associated piping behind the foglight? If so, no worries. As long as the air is going through the filter, then the MAF, and then to the TB with all of your vac hoses properly connected, you're pulling clean air.

Make sure to regularly clean and re-oil the K&N. Also avoid over-oiling the K&N, as you could blow your MAF.
