i have a s13 sr20det and an autometer air fuel meter. the gauge is not reading accurate at all. when i gas the car, the gauge runs leaner. shouldn't the gauge run richer as you gas the car?

so i thought maybe i'm not getting enough fuel so i installed a z32 fuel pump. it's still the same.

so then i disconnected the o2 sensor to see any difference while driving the car and its still the same (gauge reacts the same). this is what i noticed on the o2 sensor and the connector to the harness...

[o2 sensor] white ----- [connector] ----- black [harness][o2 sensor] black ------ [connector] ----- white [harness][o2 sensor] red -------- [connector] ------- red [harness]

sorry for the ghetto diagram... but i noticed the black and white wires do not match up on the connector. on the o2 sensor side the black is in the middle and on the wire harness side the white is in the middle.

since my gauge is connected to the white wire (signal wire) on the harness side, it is technically reading from the black wire (ground wire) on the o2 sensor side. doe this seem right?

do i just need to switch the white and black wires in the connector on the harness side so they will match up?

want to know before i try it, plus i need a special pin removal tool to get the wires out of the connector. i tried with a paper clip but its too hard.

auto-meter A/F guages are designed for wide-band O2 sensors, SR20's use narrow-band sensors. You can either convert to a wideband O2 sensor (expensive), get a narrow band a/f gauge (expensive), or sell your autometer gauge and get something more useful like a exaust/oil temp gauge.

thanks that clarified alot!

just curious... will the auotmeter o2 sensor work?

www.autometer.com/hp/2003_catalog/acces ... /2244.html

it's meant to work with their gauge... but will it fit in the same o2 sensor location (hole) and do i just splice and connect the 3 wires to the harness?

if not i guess i will just replace the gauge with something more useful as u said.

There are some guys that use the autometer a/f gauges with their stock o2 sensors so I don't think that's correct. It just work for some people and it doesn't for others.

yeah people use it, but the gauge doesnt read accuratly. This has been discussed many times, basically the gauge just goes from really high to really low and freaks out at some times and is perfectly still at others. A gauge that is designed for wideband will not function like it is designed to on a narrow band O2 sensor. Ill dig up some threads on it you can read for yourself.

Damn I'm having the same trouble with my A/F gauge. Its not an autometer but the instructions say: some sensors have 3 wires and some have 4. The ones with 4 have an extra ground. Does the KA use a wide band o2 sensor. If so I was just thinking that I could use my old KA o2 sensor and weld it in to my downpipe.

um no, i dont think much if this is correct. Ive installed many of these on Hondas and my Nissan. Did one yesterday infact

Autometer A/F gauge is for narrowband (1 volt) sensors, not for Wideband (5 volt) sensors

I have a wideband and have to output a 0-1v signal (emulating narrowband) in order for my gauge to work with it

The reason the gauge 'freaks out' is because thats the nature of narrowband sensors. Its really only worth anything under WOT.

Hookup:1. Red wire - wire thats 12v hot when the key is on ACC of IG2. Black wire - Good chassis or better yet ECU ground3. Purple wire - O2 wire on the ECU

Hey solo what whire do you hook the purple wire to. I tried splicing it in on the black wire comming from the o2 sensor and I cant get it to work woth ****. Please help me out I have been f***ing with this thing for a week now. Thanks
