This is my first post. I have a '90 240 SX and live at 7,000 in the desert southwest. I am very, very happy with my 240. Over the last coupla' years I seem to be having intermittant problems with my Air Flow Sensor or so my mechanic tells me. The car idles poorly, stalls and seems to be running rich. If I rap on the air cleaner assbly. lightly, the engine smooths out. He cleaned the AFS and that solved the problem for a few months. What can I do? My mechanic says that replacing it would cost about $450. Are there alternatives?

Here's a quick search for a new MAF for an 89-90 S13. Cheapest one is $16, but there are some for $20 that have been tested.

450$ seems high even for the stealership,it's only about 10minutes labor as well.
