Wow, that really makes you think. Makes me think I need to clean my filter for one thing, and then makes me wonder if it would do any good? That is some crazy info......thanks Bud. That really has me thinking....

very good point, it makes one think if 3 horsepower is worth the RISK of engine damage........

I have seen guys at the track (IRP) remove their air filters while racing. I am not that brave.

For a while, my buddy with his '92 Maxima drove with no filter cause it sounded nice, but when he ran at the track, he ran better times when the filter was IN.

That's an interesting read. In a way, I'm not too surprised. Several guys running K&N filters on some boards I've been on have found excessive oil buildup in their intake midpipes.

Also, on maxima.org, the common belief around there is that the oil from the K&N type filters used on the aftermarket intakes is causing the large numbers of MAF sensor failures as it blows through the intake and coats the sensor.
