I use the the aFe Pro Dry S filter, well constructed and no oil. Here what I wrote a while ago about it:
I found that Advanced Flow Engineering produces one for us (advanced FLOW engineering : Product Search v3. and search for Nissan 300ZX).http://www.afeproducts.com/IntakeSytemstestold.php
Quote »Just received the aFe Pro Dry S filter yesterday (ordered it at ultimatetruck.com, really great customer service, and since they had it in backorder, it came directly from aFe).

The funny part is that if you go on the ultimatetruck or the aFe website, you would not find the filter for the Rogue (I rechecked today). But I had several emails with the guys from ultimatetruck about the fact that I need two filters and I was ordering only one. So I have to explain them that this filter works also for the Rogue and that I need only one for the Rogue. When I received the box yesterday, there is a delcal on the box saying that the filter is for the Nissan 300ZX... and the Rogue. I would stick to OEM or the like (AEM dry flow, NAPA Gold, etc...) - for the maybe 2-3 hp increase, you subject your engine to more dirt, and the possiblity of the oil flowing into the engine/air sensor. Its even more expensive in the end, considering you can just get the paper filters for 10-15 bucks instead of 50.

Has anybody actually found the regular paper filters in stock locally at a neighborhood parts store?

I found the Fram part number through AutoZone's website...but they didn't actually carry it or even show it available for order at the store. Neither did any of the other part stores in town I checked (for Fram or any other manufacturer).

I ended up ordering one from Amazon, of all places.

I found that my local NAPA could get one the next day. However I passed and drove a mile down the road to the Nissan dealer. The air filter and a couple crush washers cost $17.83 with tax.

The move to an aftermarket filter was not for an increase in power (I could not care less for that), but a way to use a permanent filter and not a disposable one and try not to pollute more our planet. For that, I agreed to pay a premium. In exchange, I got a very well made filter that I just have to clean some time to time offering an equal or slighty better filtration (= less dirt not more dirty air) than the OEM.

But like you said, except for this consideration, you should better use an OEM filter to avoid any problem with more dirt or oil in your air intake.

Service mamager where I got my Rogue said it was alright to install a KN. He offered to put it in at my next oil change.

Wow! That's a loaded question. For every person you ask (at least those familiar with K&N filters) you will find 1)Those that swear by them... and 2) those that will warn you the oil will eventually find its way into your air intake and screw up things like the O2 sensors.

I personally ran with a K&N filter for many years and never had a a single problem with the engine. But... after selling that car I never purchased another K&N. I didn't want the hassle of cleaning it anymore... (it got to be a job I avoided)

Selecting a K&N filter for the preservation of the planet and to save the landfills is a noble cause. I salute you ... but... for those considering getting one for the minor performance benefit, I would say save your money. Cars have become so complex with all the computers, system monitors and air sensors... why take the chance? Just my two cents. Back when I had my K&N cars were much less complicated.

You can read some of the perceived Pros and Cons by perusing some of these various links: http://www.google.com/search?h...i=g10

FYI: If you decide to press ahead and go with a K&N... here's a tip I picked up years ago. As you know the principle behind K&N filters is the oil traps the finer particles that can supposedly get by paper. The trick is to not overly wet the filter with oil after cleaning it ( a lot of owners think they have to saturate them) Apply only enough oil to do the job. Also (and this is the hard part)... do the cleaning and oiling once you're done driving the vehicle for the day. In other words, clean and oil the filter then WAIT overnight at a minimum before you drive it. This gives the oil time to thoroughly penetrate and bond to the filter. Driving the vehicle right after oiling is asking for trouble as the engine can suck in any loose oil.

I chose the aFe Pro Dry S filter for that, not the K&N. No oil, just normal cleaning (tapping and vacuuming) when I change my oil.Great filter.

Pescakl and others in Canada, where did you purchase your AFE filter? The autoanything site only appears to ship to the US, and I was wondering if AutoValue or similar places might stock these.

Also, I looked at the cleaning/recharge kit, and it stated that it comes with filter oil to re-oil the filter after cleaning. Is this filter not supposedly oil free? Thanks in advance

Update: Pescakl I just saw your first post with the web site that you obtained your filter from....thanks.
