Wow! That's a loaded question. For every person you ask (at least those familiar with K&N filters) you will find 1)Those that swear by them... and 2) those that will warn you the oil will eventually find its way into your air intake and screw up things like the O2 sensors.
I personally ran with a K&N filter for many years and never had a a single problem with the engine. But... after selling that car I never purchased another K&N. I didn't want the hassle of cleaning it anymore... (it got to be a job I avoided)

Selecting a K&N filter for the preservation of the planet and to save the landfills is a noble cause. I salute you ... but... for those considering getting one for the minor performance benefit, I would say save your money. Cars have become so complex with all the computers, system monitors and air sensors... why take the chance? Just my two cents. Back when I had my K&N cars were much less complicated.

FYI: If you decide to press ahead and go with a K&N... here's a tip I picked up years ago. As you know the principle behind K&N filters is the oil traps the finer particles that can supposedly get by paper. The trick is to not overly wet the filter with oil after cleaning it ( a lot of owners think they have to saturate them) Apply only enough oil to do the job. Also (and this is the hard part)... do the cleaning and oiling once you're done driving the vehicle for the day. In other words, clean and oil the filter then WAIT overnight at a minimum before you drive it. This gives the oil time to thoroughly penetrate and bond to the filter. Driving the vehicle right after oiling is asking for trouble as the engine can suck in any loose oil.
