I recently purchased a s13 with a black top in it. The only problem is I live in Arizona, and it has no AC! How difficult would it be to install an AC unit myself? Any advice/pics would be really helpful!

Thanks,Ian K.

Did the car have AC before the motor swap?

If so, the frustrating part is already in place (the condensor box under the dash)

All you need is a compressor, the lines, and a condensor.

The options for compressors can get irritating. Depending on the year of your car, you can use certain compressors. for 91-94 chassis, I have used DOHC KA compressors to success. The original SR compressor is the best option as it completely bolts to the bracket, but the lines use a different fitting than the US cars. Most AC shops can help you there, but that can get expensive.

I suggest doing your research and reading up on the process. We have quite a few threads archived in our search function to help you out.

Did the previous owner wire up the A/C? A lot of SR guys get impatient and leave it out to get the engine running...

I'm warning you that it is a huge PITA. I can almost guarantee a crap load of frustration. I went through 2 compressors, 2 set of lines (that I had to splice together), a modified bracket, upgrading the radiator, adding an oil cooler, wiring a relay (so the fans would turn on with the a/c) etc etc. Well maybe I just have bad luck. Just pray hard to the car gods that the previous owner left most of the mechanical and electrical components in tact. But seriously... is it ever easy???......
