quick question. i started my sr20det s14 swap into my 95 nissan 240sx. the only thing i have left to do before pulling out the KA is undo the exhaust , driveshaft, and the air conditioning. from what i understand, the air compressor from the KA will mate up with the sr with 2 of the 4 bolts. so can i not disconnect any of the air conditioning hoses and unhook the compressor from the engine and let it hang and hook it up to the sr just like what i am doing with the power steering pump? thanks!

Yes you can, just make sure to suppor it adaquately and make sure it doesnt get pinched or pulled when moving new motors in and out.

you will have belt problems if you do that. best bet is to have custom a/c lines made. also make sure that whoever does your harness wires it for a/c. most people dont /dont know how

Freon is cheap and you can put it back in easily for the non-R12 systems.

Even if you had an R12 system you can convert it to R134a cheaply and easily.

THere is a product for R12 systems called Freeze 12 that works great as an alternative and requires no conversion kit. I belive its made by Johnson and its readily available here at smaller parts stores like Big-A auto.

i am doing everything myself. i am going to try it with the ka compressor. if it does not work, i can always put the sr's on. thanks everyone

oh, and whats the correct way to wire the A/C? if i had to do any rewiring what i was going to do was make a second harness of my own and punch a hole in the right side of the firewall and run it to wherever. i won't be to heart broken if i have to do that to the A/C considering i was going to wire up the digital climate control anyway.

Good luck with the KA compressor. I tried every combination I could come up and it wouldn't line up properly with the belts.

Hey, how many bolts did you use, I have one bolt right now and I did what you did, cut out a rib. (Sorry for hijack)

Just did my a/c this week all I can tell you is that the ac compressors from the s14 or basically the R134 version will not work on the SR due to the idler pulley and compressor pulley not lining up when your using the SR13 redtop bracket, which I beleive is the only bracket that can be used to make the ac work. The only combination that work is the ac compressor from a 91-93 240sx with KA24de, which is an R12 compressor, the lines will have to be custom fabbed. Hope this helps, its pretty damn nice having ac in my SR240.

Yeah I had the same problem. My sr compressor was fried due to the installers mistake. I used the stock 95 ka compressor and fabbed up a bracket to mount it. The high pressure line bolts right up. The lower pressure line. I used a 95 altima fitting to the compressor with a custom soft line and connected it to the stock ka fitting in the back. Now I can replace my compressor easily if needed with a US part. The stock KA low pressure line in shaped wrong to work.

I ended up building my own bracket for my sr b/c it came with aftermarket a/c......yeah fun, but I havent had any belt problems....as a matter of fact, it works great now.

All I did was use a redtop a/c bracket (all 4 bolts line up for s14 ka compressor). Before bolting it up, I used exhaust manifold washers off the KA (thick ones) to place between the compressor and bracket. This allows correct belt tension and prevents the compressor from going in too close to that one center bolt (part of bracket) and potentially cracking the compressor (a friend has cracked his). After it is bolted up, use a s14 ka a/c belt and cut off one rib.
