Hey guys,

Long story short, my buddy is buying an early '96 240sx (which is still OBD I) with a s13 SR redtop swap. It looks pretty clean but doesn't have AC hooked up. Being that we live in Florida, he needs AC.

What would he need to gather to get the AC to work? The car currently has the blower and evaporator installed and I have a spare s14 heater core for him. What else will need to source? I believe that I have read that the OBD I and the OBD II AC systems are completely different, this true/false?

Thanks for your help. I tried searching but there were just so many bad hits to go through.

I think as long as you have a condenser, a blower, a compressor and your high and low pressure lines you should be able to get the AC going fine. The electronics will be a little different, but it should only be making sure the compresser switch is wired to the car properly. The blower should function aside from the actual AC unit. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this. Also, there have been a couple of people that have made brackets where you can use the KA compressor on your SR swap. So try to use everything that is already made for that car and you should have no problems.

BTW, I dont think the heater core does anything with the actual AC setup. The heater uses water from your engine while the ac uses freon and a change in pressure to get a lower temperature and then it blows that chilled air through out the car. at least that's how I understand it.

Codyace makes them. If he's out I have a set I got from him a year ago. I never used them, but there is a little surface rust. They are for a 95+ ka a/c compressor on a redtop s13 sr20det.

FYI. all '96 240s should be OBDII. Only the '95s were half OBDI.

Yep OBD2 with 2 o2 sensors --- just get some custom lines fabricated and use the SR compressor.....all should be good....
